Broncos cheerleaders give thumbs up to Steamboat

2009-dbc-calendar-shoot_group For the last five years the team had gone to an exotic location in Mexico to shoot its annual calendar.

But at the urging of fans, and the opportunities that abound in Colorado, the Broncos decided to keep it more local this year. And what better and more beautiful place than Steamboat Springs?

The Broncos cheerleaders have been in Steamboat since Sunday shooting their 2009-10 swimsuit calendar. The photo shoot ends Saturday.

Locations have included Strawberry Park Hot Springs, More Barn, St. Cloud Mountain Club, the top of the gondola, Vista Verde Guest Ranch, Steamboat Lake, Rollingstone Ranch Golf Club, Ghost Ranch Saloon, F.M. Light and Sons and several private homes, among others.

“It is different,” said Teresa Shear, the Broncos’ director of cheerleading and game day entertainment. “Not all the teams in the NFL can claim the mountains like we can. With the Broncos and our Western theme, it made it a perfect spot for us. We do hope it’s a unique calendar and stands out among the other NFL teams.”

Judging by the initial reactions of several cheerleaders, the shoot has been a success.

Although the team has tried to find some water to go along with the swimsuits, they’ve also found several of Steamboat’s most beautiful and famous spots to shoot.

Tuesday evening the team was at Steamboat Lake on a boat at sunset. The cheerleaders also were shot at the top of the gondola on Monday during sunset.

“Mexico is fun and it’s fun to be on the beach,” said Nicole Moore, who has been a Broncos cheerleader for three years. “But at the same time we’re excited to be up in the mountains. Our fans really wanted us to shoot in Colorado again since we are the Denver Broncos cheerleaders. I think they’re really looking forward to the calendar up here.”

Most of the girls treat their cheerleading as more of a passion than a job. All have years of experience in dance at the youth, high school and collegiate levels. Most are either full-time students or have other full-time jobs.

“It’s like the greatest experience,” said Jessica Flores, noting that members of team are also employed as teachers, architects and pharmacists. “We do so much with games and dancing. This is more for the charities and we get to hang out with our fans.”

The photo shoots have all varied, but each includes long hours. Flores, who was photographed at the St. Cloud Mountain Club next to its fireplace, said her shoot took more than five hours, including two hours of hair and makeup.

Shear said she was looking for the ideal Colorado location for the shoot. After visiting Steamboat several months ago for her daughter’s tennis tournament, she said she knew Steamboat was the place.

“It’s the perfect fit,” she said. “The Western aspect and it’s just so beautiful up here. I know it’s going to be a great calendar for us.”

The calendar will be finished Aug. 15 and go on sale after that. It will cost $14.95 and can be purchased at www.denverbroncos.com or at retail locations throughout the Front Range. To see some of the shots from Steamboat Springs, click here.

MVC Calendar Cover Girls Named

Minnesota Vikings
6/16/2009

After several weeks of voting on vikings.com, Vikings fans have once again helped determine the ladies who will grace the cover of the 2009 Minnesota Vikings Cheerleaders Swimsuit Calendar.

2009-calendar-vote_kristina are the three ladies who came out as the winners after the process started with eight candidates vying for a spot on the cover.

“We have a beautiful team for 2009-10 and have our most gorgeous cover to date,” said MVC Head Coach Tami Krause. “I know Vikings fans are going to LOVE the new team calendar! This season will be memorable in every way.”

Annalisa is an elementary school teacher who is entering her second season as a Minnesota Vikings Cheerleader. She was named the 2009 MVC Rookie of the Year and hails from Tomah, Wisc.

Kristina, who is from Vadnais Heights, has been a MVC for three seasons and is a Marketing and Administrative Assistant. Her favorite Vikings player is Chad Greenway and is the 2009 Team Glamour Captain.

The third cover girl is Melissa, who is currently a student at the University of Minnesota. She has been on the team for four seasons and is from Burnsville. Like Kristina, her favorite current Vikings player is Greenway.

Calendar sales will launch during the Fourth of July weekend. Cheerleaders will be out in the community at calendar sales events and we will begin taking online orders shortly thereafter. Calendars will be available during Verizon Wireless Vikings Training Camp, at the Metrodome during all home games and at official Minnesota Vikings Locker Room stores.

Eagles cheerleaders go global, local

Content to remain on the sidelines?

Not the Eagles cheerleaders.

They’re back from Aruba, where they shot their second “eco-sexy” calendar – this time to raise awareness about global warming.

Early next month, six squad members will be off to Iraq to entertain the troops.

Then come two new local events for fans – a July 15 calendar-unveiling show and an Aug. 2 Linc extravaganza.

The calendar show will feature photos on a big screen, dance routines and swimwear modeling, capped off by the grand finale – revealing the woman on the cover, according to Barbara Zaun, the team’s director of cheerleading.

“That will be the first time that she finds out,” Zaun said.

Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. Prince Music Theater event should be on sale at the end of next week. The $22.50 admission includes a copy of the 16-month calender, which covers the Eagles season and all of 2010, Zaun said.

The cheerleaders also will perform at family-oriented Flight Night, which replaces the annual carnival and auction. The new football team will practice, and fans will be treated to giveaways, videos, appearances by former players and mascot Swoop, as well as fireworks.

Autographed merchandise will be for sale, but autograph sessions with players are no longer in the game plan.

Proceeds from the tickets, starting at $10 for children and $20 for adults, will benefit the Eagles Youth Partnership. Club seats, at $45 each, include the chance to meet cheerleaders and ex-Eagles. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster at 1-800-745-3000.

The calendar shoot went well, and Aruba’s desert area fit into this year’s global-warming theme, said Zaun.

Except when one cheerleader stepped on some cactus.

“We were able to get that feeling of being very hot and dry,” said Zaun.

“I kind of felt like a jungle woman,” said rookie Tracey Dunn, 22, of Philadelphia.

She posed in a bikini by an exotic tree, a tangle of interconnected roots and branches, at the resort hotel, and “the way they did my hair and makeup was really unique,” said the Muhlenberg grad, who works as a casting assistant at a talent agency.

A little yellow eyeliner. Red straw woven into her teased and braided red hair. Yellow earrings made of “hardened leaves.” A belt of sculpted bits of coconut shells.

She didn’t wear any messages, though others did – one T-shirt read “100 Percent Naturally Grown,” she said.

Dunn really enjoyed the experience, from the photo shoot to dance rehearsals, and activities like snorkeling, pool aerobics and mingling with the handful of Eagles fans who booked special trips.

“It was amazing,” she said. “To be there with everyone was just an unbelievable experience.”

Of course, seaside shots were required.

Jennifer Kaiser, 26, back for a fifth season with the squad, posed in the surf at sunset, wearing a necklace whose mini-stop signs with a flaming Earth symbolically say “Stop Global Warming.”

The piece was from Cool Planet Jewelry, whose sales benefit www.stopglobalwarming.org, said the LaSalle grad and longtime Philadelphia resident.

Garments and jewelry were mostly made of natural or recycled materials, to fit the eco-friendly objectives pioneered last year.

Kaiser is also part of the contingent slated to visit Iraq, touring bases from July 1 to 12.

“I’m really excited,” she said. “A lot of people ask me if I’m scared but I’m really not.”

A financial analyst for the Defense Department, she already helps the troops in her job, which involves getting them equipment and supplies.

But she’s happy to entertain them too.

Also heading over are Amanda Bedford, Priscilla Williams, Tiffany Monroe, Krystle Campbell and Alexandra Stephan.

Besides doing some dance routines, they’ll host fun and games, like push-up competitions and trivia contests, and answer questions from the crowd.

“It’s a great opportunity to go over there and visit the troops, and give something back,” Kaiser said.
