And the Last Super Bowl without Cheerleaders was…

Super Bowl XXI (1987) – New York Giants and Denver Broncos

The Giants have never had professional cheerleaders (although they did have some sideliners back in the late 50s).

And 1987 was after the Pony Express had disbanded, and before the Denver Broncos Cheerleaders were instituted.

From the eight correct entries, we randomly selected Mark from St. Paul, Minnesota to received the autographed 2010 Pro Bowl football.

Mark have to wait a couple of weeks for me to ship his prize, as I am on my way to Hawaii for the 2011 Pro Bowl and looking forward to seeing all the Pro Bowl Cheerleaders.

And a bonus photo the Flight Crew. We’re all pulling for the Jets to avoid another cheerleader-less Super Bowl.

Fifty Percent Chance of a Cheerleader-less Super Bowl

The Flight Crew is the only hope for Cheerleaders at the Super Bowl

The Flight Crew is the only hope for Cheerleaders at the Super Bowl

We already know that the winner of the NFC will be a team that doesn’t have cheerleaders. (Yes, I know the Packers have college squads on the sidelines, but for our purposes they aren’t Professional Cheerleaders)

So it’s up to the Jets to upset the Steelers and send the Flight Crew to Dallas, or we’ll have the first cheerleader-less Super Bowl since…..when?

That’s the question: What was the last Super Bowl without Cheerleaders? Give me the number of the Super Bowl and the two teams that played.

From all the correct entries, I’ll randomly select one winner who will receive an Official 2010 Pro Bowl Football autographed by 20 of the 2010 Pro Bowl Cheerleaders.

Mail your guess/answer to james@procheerleaderblog.com Deadline for entries is midnight this Friday (January 21). Contributors to this site are ineligible to win and that includes Pro Bowl Dan who thoughtfully provided the prize for this contest.

Trivia Question

What Professional Cheerleader appeared on Star Trek?

I want three things:

1. His or her name
2. The team they cheered for
3. The series they appeared in (Original, Animated, Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, or Enterprise)

As far as I know there’s only one cheerleader, but if someone happens to email me another correct answer, that’s cool.

I don’t think it’s that tough. So I anticipate multiple correct answers. From all the correct entries received by midnight December 27th, I’ll randomly select a one winner and send a copy of Lindsay Brin’s new book The Cheerleader Fitness Plan her Dance Jam DVD.

One Week to Go: World’s Toughest Uniform Quiz

Next Thursday is the deadline for submitting your entry..

A lot of folks have asked if we are going to let them know how they did, or will we show the original color photos. The answer to both questions is yes.

In the meantime if you didn’t see the original post about the quiz, here it is again:

gardner08We’ve got a new contest and this time it’s in the form of a quiz.

Sasha went through her archives and selected 38 photos of NFL Cheerleaders throughout the years. Your job is to identify the squad. And we’re looking for complete answers. If it’s a Baltimore Colts Cheerleader and you say Colts Cheerleader or Indianapolis Colts Cheerleader, you get partial credit. Same thing if it’s a photo of the Philadelphia Eagles Liberty Belles and you answer Philadelphia Eagles Cheerleaders, that’s only worth half-a-point

These are all NFL squads, but not necessarily current squads. Some teams may appear more than once, or not at all. Oh, did I mention all the photos are in black and white?

The top 5 entries with the most correct answers will receive a beautiful 8×12 autographed cheerleader photo provided by our own David Tyau. To see more of David’s photos, please check out his blog, The Hottest Dance Team In The NFL. In the event of ties, a random drawing will determine the winner(s).

International readers are welcome to participate, but are ineligible for prizes. US Addresses only for winning photos. (We’ve got a budget, here!)

Send your entries, the deadline is November 19th, to me (james@procheerleaderblog.com). Send your hate mail to Sasha (sasha@procheerleaderblog.com), it was her idea to make the photos B&W.

The quiz gallery is here. (Update: I am getting entries with just the first 20 uniforms, there’s a 2nd pages with 18 more mystery uniforms)

Leavenworth, Kan. (Vocus) — Football fans at this year’s Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl will have the opportunity to cheer on their favorites when the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders take on active duty soldiers in Iraq via webcam in a “Guitar Hero” Challenge, courtesy of Armed Forces Insurance (www.afi.org) and the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders. The battle will take place at the AFI booth in the Bowl’s Armed Forces Adventure Area from 3:00-5:00 p.m. on December 30.

“More than 10,000 fans are expected to attend the Adventure Area, so we plan on a spirited crowd to watch the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders take on the soldiers through cyberspace,” said Tom Dials, chairman of AFI. “It’s a great opportunity to let our troops know we support them while having some fun in the process.”

Families of competing soldiers will have reserved seating in the booth to view the competition. Donations will be accepted at the booth and used to create and send care packages to men and women serving overseas in active military duty through Give 2 The Troops, a nonprofit organization. In addition, fans also will have the opportunity to win prizes by competing in Guitar Hero contests, which will be ongoing in the AFI booth all weekend.

This is the second year AFI has served as the title partner for the Armed Forces Adventure Area, a festival designed specifically to celebrate military service. In addition to the Guitar Hero Challenge, the Adventure Area will feature booths from military branches and other corporate partners, along with military equipment and hardware on display. The festival is free of charge and will be located outside the main entrances of the Amon G. Carter stadium the day before the Bowl (December 30) from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. and on game day, December 31, from 8:30 – 10:30 a.m. and 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. The Guitar Hero Challenge will be administered by Pro vs. GI Joe, a nonprofit organization that provides troops serving all over the world with opportunities to take on professional athletes or celebrities in heated head-to-head video game competitions—both online and in person.
