Audition Prep Classes will be facilitated by NFL alumni cheerleaders who will instruct and mentor attendees in prep classes held every other Saturday from January through March at Bailey’s Powerhouse Gym on Baymeadows Road in Jacksonville. Instructors of this program have extensive backgrounds in dance, from the fundamentals of ballet to advanced gymnastics. Their goal is to share the fundamentals of each discipline so that every participant gets a well-rounded experience and preparation of what to expect at an audition, and understand the responsibilities that come with being a professional cheerleader/dancer. The classes will include: * Choreographers teaching dance styles such as jazz, hip-hip, kicks, and NFL-style techniques required for most auditions such as turns, leaps and combinations across the floor, proper kick and split techniques, jumps, and other skill requirements. A personal training expert will also conduct targeted exercise workouts and provide nutrition suggestions that the attendees are recommended to follow through auditions. The President of Professional Cheerleaders Alumni, Kristin Doakes, says “Over the past three years we have mentored over 150 young ladies to prepare them for professional level auditions. Last year several of our participants made NFL and semi-pro teams and have expressed how helpful these classes have been in preparing them. It’s an honored opportunity to watch them transform and grow, especially in their confidence. Past participants have said that even if they didn’t make the team they are auditioning for, they have grown from the experience we teach in classes.” For more information, or to register for Audition Prep Classes, go to www.ProCheerleadersAlumni.com.

Write this down: July 23-24th. You’re going to Vegas, baby! Get ready for Pro Action Dance [click for website]. I’m talking Mina and Marina Ortega, John Peters, Shandon Koleberg, Andy Vaca and Tony Gonzales. And that’s just a few of the kick-ass choreographers who will break it down for you that weekend:
It’s a weekend in Lost Wages. Bring your teammates, bring your girlfriends, or heck, come by yourself and make friends when you get there. You’ll dance all day Friday and all day Saturday. How you spend the rest of the weekend is up to you. Get a massage, try your hand with Lady Luck, or take in a show. (I do not recommend the Celine Dion/Cirque du Soleil thing, however. Kathy Griffin says that show makes no sense and I believe her.) |
