Vixens Dance Team Holds Auditions for Inaugural Season
On April 18, 2009 a group of 27 girls turned out to ICE Nightclub in King of Prussia for the first ever Philadelphia Fight Vixens Dance Team auditions.
The open call brought dancers from area colleges — Drexel University, University of the Arts and Saint Joseph’s University — along with dancers with professional backgrounds in fields ranging from secondary education to sales and marketing.
The 6-hour day began with a warm-up where contestants were evaluated on basic technical dance movement. Then the girls learned a brief dance routine, choreographed by Cassie Russo, which they performed in groups of two in front of a panel of judges. Judges included Ryan McGough, CEO of the Philadelphia Fight, Peter Ilfield, Chairman/Coach, and Brad Kielinski, Executive Board Member. Two Fight Team sponsors were also in attendance.
Fourteen finalists were selected to go through interviews with the judging panel. Along with outstanding performance ability, the judges were looking for girls who exuded showmanship and professionalism — the total package. From the 14 finalists, 11 girls were chosen to represent the Philadelphia Fight as Vixens for the dance team’s inaugural season.
During the 2009 Fight season, the Vixens Dance Team will be at all Fight homes games where they will perform pre-game and during half-time, and interact with fans. The girls will also be present at Fight events and represent the Fight at appearances throughout the Philadelphia community.
The Vixens Dance Team was formed in March 2009, founded and co-directed by Cassie Russo and Emily Czerniakowski.
Affiliated with the Philadelphia Fight Rugby League Team based in Conshohocken, PA, the Vixens’ mission is to enhance the Fight Rugby League experience, on and off the field, in conjunction with the support of the ALS Association of Greater Philadelphia and the American National Rugby League in general.
