Charger Girls Photos from Week 9

The unexpected happened last Sunday as the Los Angeles Chargers thoroughly dominated the visiting Green Bay Packers for a 26 – 11 victory.  It wasn’t that the Chargers won the game that was so unexpected.  No, it was they way in which the Chargers won that was so surprising.  A dominating defense held the vaunted Packers offense to a season worst performance largely by limiting Aaron Rodgers and holding them to a meager 45 yards rushing.  Additionally, the Chargers offense was able to move the ball effectively against the Packers all day long, scoring two touchdowns and four field goals.

This was also the Chargers’ Salute to Service celebration and the Charger Girls wore their traditional military themed uniforms, the absolute best in the NFL, to honor the occasion.  Click here to view the Chargers gallery of images from last Sunday.

Charger Girls Photos from Week 6

It was another tough outing for the struggling Chargers.  This week, it was the Pittsburgh Steelers that gave the boys in blue all they wanted and more.  And to make things worse, the number of Steelers fans in attendance made last Sunday feel like a home game in Pittsburgh.

Nothing like kicking the Chargers when they’re down.  The Steelers had the audacity to start their third string quarterback against the Bolts and he acquitted himself well enough to deliver the victory for the visitors.

Final score:  Steelers – 24, Chargers – 17.

If things don’t start improving soon for the Chargers, the season will be lost.  But let us not dwell on the negative and, instead, focus on the positive…the Charger Girls.  Click here to view the Chargers gallery of images from last Sunday’s game.

Charger Girls Photos from Week 5

The Los Angeles Chargers hosted the visiting Denver Broncos this past Sunday, hoping to end a recent string of poor performances.  Only a victory over the winless Miami Dolphins last week offered any hope for a return to past winning ways, but those hopes were dashed when the Broncos defeated the Chargers, 20 – 13.

To say this season has been a disappointment would be an understatement as most Charger fans had high expectations coming off of last season’s success.  The reality is that a close victory over the Andrew Luck-less Colts is the only quality win on the resume and three losses to middle of the pack teams does not bode well for the Chargers, who had hopes of playoff success.

But enough misery.  Let’s turn our attention to something eminently more positive…your Los Angeles Charger Girls.  Click here to view the Chargers gallery of images from Week 5.

Los Angeles Charger Girls Photos from Week 3

One of the preseason favorites to contend for the AFC title was the Los Angeles Chargers, who looked to build upon  strong 2018 season.  Things were looking good for the boys in blue until a hold out by standout running back Melvin Gordon seemed to forebode bad tidings.  It’s never a good thing for your All Pro running back to hold out and for whatever reason, the Chargers haven’t been close to the team they were last year, starting off with a 1-1 record.

Make that a 1-2 record as the Chargers woes continued in Week 3, when the Houston Texans defeated the home team, 28 – 20.

At least Los Angeles has the Charger Girls.  Click here to view the Charger gallery of images from last Sunday.

Charger Girls Photos from Week 1

The cosmic balance in the world was disrupted last Sunday when the Charger Girls debuted new alternate uniforms.  Now, I am a firm believer that the traditional Charger Girl uniform is a classic and you don’t mess with something that successful.  So I was a little confused and disappointed when I saw these new alternate uniforms.  To me, they seem more appropriate and similar to practice attire that I have seen on other NFL squads, but I suspect this is a just a part of a trend in the NFL.

These new alternate uniforms are lacking in the glamour department in my opinion, but then again, I am not a big fan of the color rush uniforms the players wear.  That’s just me.

I will let you judge for yourself.  Click here to view the Chargers gallery of images from last Sunday and I encourage you to post your thoughtful and reasoned comments below.

NFL Regular Season Week 12 – The Charger Girls

It was a tale of two teams…one, a playoff contender and the other a team rebuilding from the bottom up.  This past Sunday, the Los Angeles Chargers, the playoff contender, hosted the Arizona Cardinals, the team in rebuild mode, and the outcome was as you would have expected.

The Chargers so thoroughly dominated the Cardinals that they pulled starting quarterback Phillip Rivers early in the fourth quarter as to not pile it on the hapless visitors from Phoenix.  It was that lopsided.  But before he exited the game, Rivers passed for 259 yards and three touchdowns…he probably could have passed for two more TDs, but what was the point.  The Chargers had already lost their stud running back Melvin Gordon to a serious knee injury, so the time was right for Rivers to go.  Final score: Chargers – 45, Cardinals – 10.

NFL Regular Season Week 11 – The Charger Girls

The Los Angeles Chargers lost a heartbreaking game to the Denver Broncos when Brandon McManus kicked a 34 yard field goal as time expired.  This loss was particularly meaningful because this game was winnable and with a win, the Chargers could have possibly tied the division leading Chiefs who were playing the Los Angeles Rams on Monday Night Football.  But that wasn’t meant to be because the Broncos showed some fortitude and kept the score close until the fourth quarter, where they prevailed on McManus’ last second heroics.

Charger Philip Rivers had a mixed day, throwing for 401 yards and two touchdowns, but he also threw two costly interceptions, one of which was nearly returned for a Broncos touchdown.  Final score: Broncos – 23, Chargers – 22.

NFL Regular Season Week 5 – The Charger Girls

Whenever the Raiders come to town, its a big deal for the Chargers.  The Raiders are a long time division rival who are also in state division rivals, so that’s doubly special.  When I was a Chargers season ticket holder, the Raiders game was always special.  The games were electric and there was a circus like atmosphere with all those passionate Raiders fans dressed up their colorful outfits.  It was a game that always had a special meaning even if those games weren’t always the most competitive.

It’s a rebuilding year for the Raiders and quite the opposite for the Chargers, who are one of the favorites to win the AFC West this year.  So it should come as no surprise that the Chargers rather easily handled the boys in silver and black.  The Chargers stormed out to a 17 – 3 half time lead and coasted to victory on the strength of Philip Rivers, who passed for 339 yards and two TDs.  Final Score: Chargers – 26, Raiders – 10.

NFL Regular Season Week 4 – The Charger Girls

We continue our coverage of Week 4 of the NFL regular season with a visit to Southern California, where the San Francisco 49ers came calling to play the Los Angeles Chargers.  In a surprisingly tight game, the Los Angeles Chargers survived a tough match up to defeat the 49ers 29 – 27.  The 49ers were starting their back up QB C.J. Beathard after starter Jimmy Garappolo was lost for the season last week and Beathard acquitted himself well, throwing for 298 yards and 2 TDs.  But that impressive debut was not enough to hold off the Chargers, who were led my veteran signal caller Philip Rivers and RB Melvin Gordon.

It was another hot day in Southern California with temperatures nearing 90 degrees, but things were not as hot as on the sidelines where the Charger Girls were performing.  Click here to view the Chargers game day gallery of images.

NFL Regular Season Week 1 – The Charger Girls

Rain wreaked havoc on many NFL games this weekend, but not in Southern California where it rains here about as often as we have earthquakes…not quite, but not often.  The weather was gorgeous and so were the Charger Girls.  See for yourself.  Click here to view the Chargers game day gallery.
