Game Day with the Dallas Stars Ice Girls
The Dallas Stars Ice Girls are a group of 23 dancers and skaters that can be found dancing, performing ice maintenance, signing autographs and posing for photos at all Stars home games at American Airlines Center.
The day I visited, the Ice Girls were in for an extra long day, starting with a pre-game flash mob outside the arena with some girl scouts.
During the game, the Ice Stars Dancers perform just above section 101 (in case you were thinking of picking up some tickets).
When auditions are held, hopefuls can try out as a dancer or a skater. But returning veterans are asked to cross-train so they dance or skate as needs may dictate.

The NHL has some very strict guideline on the performance of ice maintenance. The Ice Girls have just 2 minutes to clear the ice from the goal line to the blue line and from around the goal.
The Ice Girls only enter one end of the rink, so the skaters working at the far goal. But they still only have two minutes to get the job done.
After the game there was time for a few photos…
But the Ice Girls weren’t done yet.
Up on the concourse, the Girl Scouts who attended the game (and who also flash mobbed earlier) learned the importance of nutrition and exercise from the Ice Girls…
And then learned a dance routine.
A big thanks to the Ice Girls and Director Christine Swanson for making my trip to Dallas an enjoyable one.
