The Detroit Lions hosted the Seattle Seahawks this past weekend and a victory for the home team would mean at least a tie in the highly competitive NFC North division. Going into the game, the Lions had an excellent chance for the win against the Seahawks who were a .500 team and were searching for answers regarding recent personnel changes. Gone was the Legion of Boom, that dominating defense that marked the Super Bowl teams of the past. In contrast, the Lions boast one of the most potent offenses in the NFL with a strong armed quarterback, a bevy of game changing wide receivers and a rookie running back that is on the verge of stardom. But the Seahawks still have a relic of the past in Russell Wilson and he was the difference in the game, throwing for 248 yards and three touchdowns. Seahawks win, 28 – 14.
The Detroit Lions have the good sense to post galleries that feature a large number of images that showcase the game day experience. Click here to view the Lions gallery from this past Sunday.
The Minnesota Vikings have had to overcome some adversity to get to the point where they are the unquestioned leaders of the NFC North. Losing star running back Dalvin Cook has been set back and with the Green Bay Packers hot on their heels, their game against the New York Jets was a must win.
With respect to the Jets, their fortunes largely depend on the continued development of rookie quarterback Sam Darnold. As Darnold goes, so goes the Jets. And this past Sunday, the young signal caller from USC had a bad day, completing 17 of 42 passes for 206 yards, one touchdown and three costly interceptions. Final score: Vikings – 37, Jets – 17.
Things will get better for the Jets, but as with all the teams that are starting rookie quarterbacks, there’s a reason why they were able to draft them that high. Give it time.

The Denver Broncos and the Arizona Cardinals are two teams that began the season much the same way, with new challenges, new questions, and several new faces. After seven weeks, the Denver Broncos appear to be a little further along on the rebuilding process, having found a run game though they may be still searching for a permanent solution at quarterback. The jury is still out on Case Keenum.
With respect to the Cardinals, they have found their answer at quarterback…they just need to keep him on his feet and maybe provide him with more than three seconds to go through his progression. There are other questions that need to be answered, other positions that need to be filled. Many more.
That disparity between the two teams was evident this past Sunday where the Broncos handed the Cardinals a decisive loss, thoroughly overwhelming the Cardinals offensive line and pressuring Josh Rosen into three interceptions and two lost fumbles. The final score: Broncos – 45, Cardinals – 10.
