A Laker Girl
From 2011 – A member of the San Francisco 49ers Gold Rush
The Chargers got back on the winning track with a win over the hapless Chiefs before a national television audience on Thursday Night Football. It really wasn’t as competitive as the final score would indicate with the Chargers, scoring the first 10 points and never looking back. Fans in attendance, myself included, never really felt like the Chiefs were in the game, not that the Chargers were lighting it up on offense. It was just a sense that they never were competitive in the game. Two fourth quarter touchdowns off of Chief turnovers put the game out of reach.
Final Score: Chargers – 31 Chiefs – 13
With the win, the Chargers ended a three game losing streak. Many of us in attendance speculated that if the Chargers lost this game or if they fail to reach the playoffs, that this might be the end of the Norv Turner era. There is a growing discontent among Charger fans, that the window for success under Norv Turner is closing and that change is needed. But with the win over the lowly Chiefs, it was a feel good time…at least for the moment. But with the win over the lowly Chiefs, it was a feel good time…at least for the moment.
For me, it wasn’t a feel good moment as once again, the unpleasantness of a overzealous Elite Security staff member prevented me from using my camera in the fourth quarter. I was asked to stop using my camera because the Elite Security staff member said my lens was longer than 6 inches. It is not. It’s only 5.6 inches long. But he was adamant that it was and you can’t win in this situation. The 20-something security staff member didn’t have a ruler or a way to measure my lens, as I asked him to do so. So, in another nightmarish catch-22 scenario…without the ruler, I couldn’t prove that I was right and he couldn’t prove that I was wrong. In that case, tie goes to the ignorant and the wrong minded people in the red shirts…so I lost out. And though he was polite and tried to resolve the situation amicably…I was so turned off by the experience, that I stopped shooting near the end of the third quarter even though he gave me a reprieve while he tried to get the attention of a field supervisor for further clarification.
Oh well, but enough of my complaining. I only bring this up to point out that I was only able to shoot the first three Charger Girl lines, so for this week there are no photographs of Marissa’s line. Oh well. I shall endeavor to do better next time…and you can be sure I will bring a ruler next game!
Okay so let’s begin this week’s coverage of the Charger Girls with the Tri-Captains: Kara, Lauren O. and Natalie.
This week’s Charger Girl of the Day is a former 49ers Gold Rush and is a first year Charger Girl…introducing Meridith.

It was a tale of two halves. The first half belonged to the Chargers, who scored 24 points and thoroughly dominated the Broncos. But the second half belonged to the visitors, who used five turnovers by Charger QB Philip Rivers to score 35 points to win the game. For those of us that were in attendance, this was a strange and bizarre game…or two games as it were. Un-fricken-believable! Peyton Manning looked absolutely pedestrian in the first half, but reincarnated himself in the second as Superman, throwing several clutch touch passes that reminded us of his MVP years in Indianapolis.
But perhaps the most dismaying aspect of the game was the continued erratic play of Philip Rivers, who continued a bad habit of throwing untimely interceptions. Several of his throws appeared to be lacking the zip or crispness that he had shown early in his career and he has since become an interception throwing machine. Clearly, Rivers was his own worst enemy on Monday night.
Final Score: San Diego Chargers – 24 Denver Mannings – 35
Oh well. At least the Charger Girls came to play…first half and second half.
I hate nationally televised night games, photographically speaking. Sure it’s exciting in a way that a regular game is not. But it also poses many problems…irritations really. It’s dark and stadium lighting sucks. It’s more crowded with additional people on the sidelines, making it near impossible to get a clean shot of the cheerleaders. There’s more visiting and home fans, and they have many more hours to get lubricated, if you get my meaning (although the three Bronco fans from Utah sitting next to me were really cool). And it’s takes forever to get out of the parking lot. Oh well…the things I do to get you these shots. But enough complaining.
So let’s begin this week’s coverage with the Line Captains: Kara (welcome back!), Lauren O., Natalie, and Marissa.
This week’s Charger Girl of the Day always give me some great shots. She is a line Captain and hails from the beautiful city of Santa Maria…introducing Natalie.
I don’t know anything about this website and this isn’t an endorsement, but they did provide their list of the 100 most beautiful NFL cheerleaders for 2012 and it’s an interesting read. See if your favorite NFL cheerleader made the list.

On a personal note, over the past year or so I must have photographed over a third of these girls and I must say that I agree with their selections.
It was another hot day in San Diego. Over 100 degrees on the field. And with two undefeated teams playing each other, you would expect some hot game action. But alas, a competitive game was not to be. Only one team came to play and they were the Atlanta Falcons, who thoroughly dominated the Chargers. Matt Ryan’s aerial attack burned the Chargers for three touchdowns and running back Michael Turner rushed for another TD to put the game away in the fourth quarter.
The Chargers tried in vain to sustain any offense, but were stymied by a stingy Falcon defense that forced Philip Rivers into throwing two interceptions. Not even the return of Ryan Mathews could spark the offense, as he was held to 44 rushing yards and had a devastating fumble at the Atlanta 4-yard line to punctuate the Chargers’ offensive ineptitude. Final score: Falcons – 27 Chargers – 3.
Well it wasn’t a total loss…the Charger Girls were hot! hot! hot!
Let’s begin this week’s coverage of the Charger Girls with the Line Captains: Lauren P., Lauren O., Natalie and Marissa.
This week’s Charger Girl of the Day has been a consistent performer and has given me exceptional images every week of the season. A native San Diegan, this week’s CGOTD is a second year veteran, introducing…Angela.
It was hot in San Diego. Unseasonably hot. Uncomfortably hot. And by the end of the day, the Titans were feeling the heat after being torched by the Chargers. Leading the charge for the California Boys was Dante Rosario, whose three touchdown receptions were all that was needed to dispatch the Titans. Playing without play makers Antonio Gates and Ryan Mathews, the Chargers needed the defense to step up and they did, holding Chris Johnson to 17 meaningless yards. But it was Philip Rivers three touchdown passes to little used tight end Dante Rosario that was the story of the day. That dude was on fire. Chargers – 31 Titans – 10.
And there was some heat on the sidelines as well.
With a 2-0 start, there is some reason for optimism for Charger fans, but we’ve been down this road before. If we want to be among the NFL’s elite again, a fast start and strong finish is the type of season the Chargers must have and the win over the Titans was a step in the right direction.
