Ultimate Cheerleaders

SAN DIEGO, CA – The Sirens Dance Team is looking for talented and passionate dancers for the 2019-2020 season. This is YOUR opportunity to be an ambassador for a professional sports team and dance for the city’s premier squad.  Auditions will be held on Sunday, August 4. Registration will open at 9:30am. The audition will begin promptly at 10:00 a.m.

How do I register for auditions? 

What are we looking for in a Sirens dance team member?

  • Technically talented dancer & entertainer
  • Ambassador for the Seals organization
  • Positive and energetic, with a great personality
  • Physically fit
  • Professional and timely
  • Team player
  • Must be 18 years of age by August 4, 2019

What commitment is required to be a San Diego Seals dance team member?

  • Attend and perform at all home games
  • Attend two rehearsals per week. Additional rehearsals may be scheduled during the season for games, appearances, dance clinics, special events and playoffs.
  • Available for personal appearances for:
    • Media interviews
    • Photo shoots
    • Dance clinics
    • Community outreach
  • Upon making the team, all members must be available for mandatory orientation

What is the San Diego Seals dance team audition process?

Auditions for the 2019-20 team are a multi-step process. The process includes, but is not limited to:

  • Application submission
  • Dance audition
  • Interview
  • Background check

What should I wear to auditions?

  • Two-piece attire (half top with briefs or boy-cut shorts)
  • Skin-tone nylons
  • Non-marking shoes (jazz shoes are recommended; non-marking dance sneakers or athletic shoes are also okay)
  • Hair must be worn down; full hair and make-up strongly encouraged
  • Minimal jewelry

What should I bring to auditions?

  • Head shot & full shot (non-returnable), 5×7 or larger, taken within the last 12 months
  • Plenty of water and snacks
  • Hair and makeup supplies
  • Jacket and sweats to wear during breaks

What can I do to prepare for auditions?

The San Diego Seals will offer a pre-audition workshop.  While participation in the workshop isn’t mandatory, it’s strongly encouraged as an excellent way to hone your dance skills and learn what it takes to be a member of the team. The workshop will be held on July 21st. Dancers attending the workshop will learn a portion of the audition-day choreography. Every year, the Charlotte Honey Bees send a large contingent of dancers to the annual P-R-O Convention in Atlanta and every year, I am impressed with the squad that comes out to play.  I try to feature as many of the Honey Bees as I am able because they are one impressive squad.

The Washington Wizards are seeking energetic and talented female and male dancers for the Wizards Dancers squad! Open call auditions will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2019 at Trinity Washington University, 125 Michigan Ave. NE, Washington, DC 20017. Prep Classes Details

Wizards Dancers prep classes are the best way to prepare for the open call auditions. At each class you will learn a Wizards Dancers style combination or routine and we will discuss auditions tips, fitness, dance technique and much more. Attend all four classes and receive round 1 bye at open call auditions! Pre-register for prep classes and secure your spot today!

Audition Details

Open call auditions are closed to the public. Preliminary auditions will consist of 3 rounds of choreography that will include hip-hop, jazz, and freestyle. Finalists will be chosen and announced at the conclusion of the day. Please bring food and drinks to keep you energized and hydrated between rounds. Also bring items to freshen up in between rounds. Candidates will be judged on appearance, style, technique, personality, energy and projection, completion of choreography, personality and attitude. Audition dates and location are subject to change throughout the audition process.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years or older by September 1, 2019 (valid I.D. required on the day of audition)
  • Must be at least a part-time student or hold a part-time job
  • Completed waiver and professional/dance resume
  • Must provide a non-returnable headshot and full body shot
  • Must be available for 35 of 41 home games and be able to attend all evening rehearsals
  • Must be able attend a certain number of appearances and Wizards related events
  • If selected , a year contract and commitment are required
  • Walk-ups day of auditions are welcome

Attire

  • Sneakers or dance shoes/boots with non-marking soles

This is my 10th year covering the annual P-R-O Convention in Atlanta.  It is my favorite event of the year to cover because I get to photograph professional cheerleaders from all over the country and some from outside the US.  It’s a wonderful experience and every year I get some memorable photographs.

The P-R-O Convention in Atlanta is the premier professional cheerleading convention and attracts the very best professional cheerleaders and choreographers in the nation. Squads from the NFL, NBA, minor league sports, and several college dance teams gathered in Atlanta for a fun filled weekend of dance, team building and networking.

The Climb: The Journey of Rookie Year

Alright, you made it through auditions and became a pro cheerleader, now what?!? Join Brittany and Mhkeeba as they discuss the journey of rookie year that often times can be very difficult to navigate. The ladies begin with the typical squad business that happens when you first make the team – photo shoots, long practices to learn dance routines, boot camp, and promo appearances. They also discuss the biggest mistakes and lessons learned from their rookie year on the squad. Cheer Chat includes an NBA auditions update and discussion of some NFL cheerleading teams bio photo shoots, calendar magazines and squad mini camp.
