Ultimate Cheerleaders

It’s well known that Ben Roethlisberger plays much better at home than on the road and the difference is striking.  Since 2014, Roethlisberger’s home game/away game split is 24.0 fantasy points at home versus 14.7 o the road.  That’s a difference of 9.4 points and the worst by far of any quarterback over that time period.

So what does this all mean?  Well, this week the Steelers were playing the Denver Broncos on the road and that statistical trend continued.  Although Roethlisberger passed for over 400 yards, he did have two key interceptions and the last one cost the Steelers the game.  With 1:03 left in on the clock, Roethlisberger threw a pass that was intercepted by nose tackle Shelby Harris to seal the victory for the Broncos.  Yeah…a nose tackle…when was the last time you saw a nose tackle intercept a pass?  Final score: Broncos – 24, Steelers – 17.

Last Sunday, was a glorious day for the Minnesota Vikings.  They played their arch rival, the Green Bay Packers, who are neck and neck with the Vikings for second place in the NFC North.  So, a victory would be doubly nice.  And win, they did.  24 – 17, Vikings.

So let’s take a long look at this week’s MVC photos and click here to view the Vikings game day gallery.

The Carolina Panthers lost a heart breaker on Sunday on the very last play of the game, a 45 yard field goal by the Seahawks ageless kicker, Sebastian Janikowki.  But that’s okay because if I had the TopCats to cheer up my spirits, I’m good as can be after a tough loss.  Click here to see this week’s TopCats photos.

The Baltimore Ravens got their second win in a row with Lamar Jackson at the helm.  This week, it was the Oakland Raiders who were the victims.  A balanced attack by the Ravens and a strong defensive effort kept the Raiders in check.  Final score: Ravens – 34, Raiders – 17.

With the win, the Ravens stay within one game of the division leading Pittsburgh Steelers with five games to go in the season.

It was a tale of two teams…one, a playoff contender and the other a team rebuilding from the bottom up.  This past Sunday, the Los Angeles Chargers, the playoff contender, hosted the Arizona Cardinals, the team in rebuild mode, and the outcome was as you would have expected.

The Chargers so thoroughly dominated the Cardinals that they pulled starting quarterback Phillip Rivers early in the fourth quarter as to not pile it on the hapless visitors from Phoenix.  It was that lopsided.  But before he exited the game, Rivers passed for 259 yards and three touchdowns…he probably could have passed for two more TDs, but what was the point.  The Chargers had already lost their stud running back Melvin Gordon to a serious knee injury, so the time was right for Rivers to go.  Final score: Chargers – 45, Cardinals – 10.
