Ultimate Cheerleaders

The Cardinals lost a close one against the Oakland Raiders, but I suppose we should look at the bright side.  Rookie QB Josh Rosen had his moments, passing for three touchdowns, but he still was under the gun to much and threw two interceptions.   One an only imagine how he would do if he had a decent offensive line to pass block for him.  Oh well…Raiders win, 23 – 21.

It’s a new era in Baltimore, who started rookie Lamar Jackson, the exciting quarterback from Louisville, in place of the injured Joe Flacco.  Many have speculated that Jackson is the future of the franchise and starting him now in order to further his development is the right thing to do.  Either way, this past Sunday was a chance to see the talented rookie in meaningful action for the first time.

Behind the signal calling of Jackson, the Ravens eked out a victory over division opponent Cincinnati, 24 – 21.  It was an unconventional performance, but effective as Jackson rushed 26 times for 119 yards and passed 19 times for 150 yards…just enough to keep the Bengals at bay.  Hey, a win is a win and this win propelled the Ravens into a tie for second place in the AFC North.

The NFC East leading Washington Redskins lost the game to the visiting Houston Texans, 23 – 21.  A loss at this stage of the season is costly enough, but the Redskins also lost their starting quarterback to a horrible leg injury.  Alex Smith broke his leg in an eerily similar manner to that of Joe Theismann…it was a terrible thing to see and unfortunately for the Redskins, Smith was lost for the season.  The timing couldn’t have been worse with the Redskins playing the surprisingly resurgent Dallas Cowboys on a short week and on the road.  But such is the life in the NFL.  Next man up.

The Los Angeles Chargers lost a heartbreaking game to the Denver Broncos when Brandon McManus kicked a 34 yard field goal as time expired.  This loss was particularly meaningful because this game was winnable and with a win, the Chargers could have possibly tied the division leading Chiefs who were playing the Los Angeles Rams on Monday Night Football.  But that wasn’t meant to be because the Broncos showed some fortitude and kept the score close until the fourth quarter, where they prevailed on McManus’ last second heroics.

Charger Philip Rivers had a mixed day, throwing for 401 yards and two touchdowns, but he also threw two costly interceptions, one of which was nearly returned for a Broncos touchdown.  Final score: Broncos – 23, Chargers – 22.

The Atlanta Falcons won the battle of field goals through the third quarter, outscoring the visiting Dallas Cowboys, 9 – 6.  But they play four quarters of football and in the fourth, the Cowboys scored 17 points, including three points on the last play of the game to pull out the victory.  Final score: Cowboys – 22, Falcons – 19.

For the Cowboys, they got back into the NFC East race with the win.  And that race could be very interesting with the Redskins losing Alex Smith, their starting quarterback, for the season after he suffered a gruesome leg injury reminiscent of Joe Theismann’s broken leg.

For the Falcons, there is disappointment in losing a game that was theirs for the taking.  With the loss, the black birds fall five games behind the division leading New Orleans Saints, all but dashing their playoff hopes.

On to more positive things.  Let us turn our attention to this week’s Atlanta Falcons Cheerleaders images.  Click here to view the Falcons game day gallery.
