Ultimate Cheerleaders

The New York Jets Flight Crew maybe the newest squad in the NFL, but that doesn’t mean that they are building traditions. Earlier this month, former members of the Flight Crew returned to MetLife Stadium for Flight Crew Alumni Day.

Flight Crew Alumni and the current Flight Crew

Flight Crew Alumni assembled early on the field prior to the Jets-Saints game to watch the 2013-14 squad go thru pre-game rehearsal.

The Alumni from 2010

Hugging and reminiscing were the order of the day.

One feature of Alumni Day, is each of the current members of the squad is paired up with an alumna. She researches the former cheerleader, learns all about her, when she cheered, was she in the calendar, a captain, did she go to Pro Bowl, etc.

And then the alumna receives an individualized gift and a handwritten card.

But there’s more to Alumni Day. After rehearsal, the former Cheerleaders gathered outside the stadium to cheer on the players and coaches as they arrived. Then they gathered around the MetLife Central Stage to await a performance by the Flight Crew.

But while they were waiting several of the ladies were “drafted” into a competition, where each one had to down a complete football uniform: helmet, jersey, cleats, etc. And then race to end of the field , do a touchdown dance, race back and do it all over gain.

Drawing on their great teamwork skills, the FC Alumni easily defeated a team of Jets fans.

Healthy living expert, authority and mentor Molly Shattuck emphasizes a back to basics, yet unique approach to wellness in her new book Vibrant Living. Slated for worldwide release on February 4, 2014 through Hilton Publishing, the book’s proven approach is designed to motivate individuals to achieve their dreams and reach their fullest potential by discovering the rewards of healthy living.

Awarded for her own vibrant lifestyle, Shattuck made NFL history as the oldest cheerleader in 2005 when she was chosen by the Baltimore Ravens to join their squad at the age of 38. She has been dubbed “Martha Stewart on fast-forward” by Sports Illustrated and Shattuck’s vivacious spirit and love for health has impressed athletes and health experts alike.

“Spend 21 days with this book and you’ll lose weight, feel energized, and be well on your way to better health.” Arthur Agatston, MD, preventive cardiologist and creator of The South Beach Diet

Vibrant Living unveils Shattuck’s revolutionary 21-Day Action Plan that provides readers with an opportunity to transform their bodies, gain energy and find more purpose in life. Its core is centered on her four key pillars: Drink Water, Eat Real, Exercise Daily and Live for Others.

Shattuck’s 21-Day Action Plan has already helped thousands of people lose weight, feel younger, experience fewer aches and pains, sleep better and live a more purposeful life. Filled with expert advice and inspiring stories, Vibrant Living will help readers pause, think and act—simple and profound acts that can propel their health and soul to new heights.

“Empowering the body frees the mind and soothes the spirit,” says Shattuck, who has developed 21-Day Challenges with individuals, families, businesses and various groups of all ages to help them take charge of their own health and life.

Shattuck insists that being healthy is not about achieving a fashion magazine’s ideal of perfection. She wants her readers to experience real health tailored to real women and personally lives this out as a great example to others. Shattuck is a mother of three who has never had a personal trainer or membership to a gym and chose not to alter or airbrush her photos in her latest book.

Shattuck explains that “the book is about the split second choices you make every day to fuel your energy or dull it,” she says. “Neglecting to be intentional—day after day, tiny choice after tiny choice—can lead to a lifetime of poor health, unrealized dreams and lackluster living.”

No newcomer to the health and fitness arena, Shattuck was listed among Maryland’s Top 100 Women Daily Record in 2012 and in the same year was recipient of the NAACP’s Thurgood Marshall Award for Community & Business. She was named the American Diabetes Association’s Healthy Living Ambassador in 2013 and appointed Healthy Food Ambassador for United Way of Central Maryland’s Access to Healthy Food Initiative which has sourced more than 5.1 million lbs. of healthy food for people in need since 2011.

She is co-founder of Families Living United, an initiative of United Way that creates opportunities for families to volunteer together and holds Honorary Chair of the Mayor’s Business Forum on Women’s Health in Baltimore. Additional activities include her work with Real Food Farm and the American Heart Association, where Shattuck is a Go Red for Women Mission and Engagement Chair. She also serves on the board for Baltimore School for the Arts (10 years) and is a founding and current board member of the National Children’s Museum.

Photographer Mark Johnson writes:

On October 13th I had the opportunity to photograph the New England Patriots Cheerleaders with the designer of their signature uniforms, Sondra Celli. This shoot is part of a larger project that includes studio photographs of Sondra Celli Designs and the construction of a new website for the designer.

A San Antonio Spurs Silver Dancer

On a exciting Tampa Bay night of festivities the Bucs “got off the schneid” with a down to the wire victory over their cross state rival, the Miami Dolphins. The highlight of the victory was tackle Donald Penn catching a 1-yard “sneak” pass for the first TD.

The NFL Hall of Fame inductee, Buc Warren Sapp, was in the house as he received the honor of his iconic #99 jersey being retired and his name added to the stadium’s Tampa Bay Buccaneer Ring of Honor. Nice halftime ceremony and speech given.

The Buccaneer Organization did a fine job all week in honoring our US Armed Forces with their “Salute to Service” campaign. On a beautiful Tampa evening the Cheerleaders also displayed their military appreciation on Veterans Day by sporting various military inspired uniforms for the national televised MNF game.

Winning is fun–enjoy the photos:
