A member of the Jacksonville Sharks Attack Dance Team

Chicago Rush Dance Coach and Choreographer Gloria Esposito has been named the 2013 NET10 Wireless Dream Team Director and Choreographer, the League office announced today.

The “NET10 Wireless Dream Team” is composed of one dancer from each AFL team who will perform at ArenaBowl XXVI in Orlando. The Dream Team will also make a variety of event appearances during ArenaBowl Championship Week.

Esposito served as the 2012 NET10 Dream Team Director and Choreographer for ArenaBowl XXV in New Orleans as well.

“I felt that we were really prepared last year and the total experience was super exciting and the girls did a really great job,” Esposito said. “I think that this year we can do that as well.”

Esposito began dancing with the Chicago Rush in their inaugural season in 2001. She was named Captain of the squad in 2002 and spent 2004-2006 as the Head Captain. In 2007, Esposito was promoted to Assistant Director and in 2009, she became the team’s Coach and Choreographer. She also spent four seasons (1999-2003) with the Chicago Luvabulls, the Chicago Bulls dance team.

Esposito also has experience as a Dream Team dancer, having been selected to the squad during her time as a dancer for the Rush. The opportunity has been a contributing factor to her knowledge and success as a director.

“I’ve danced on the Dream Team so I kind of knew what to expect but at the same time I knew going into it that it was going to be a whole new adventure as a director,” Esposito said. “I think it’s important to allow the girls to form a bond through this experience because even though we are not on the same team, we are still a part of the same AFL family.”

As both a director and former dancer, Esposito recognizes the important role the Dream Team provides to the ArenaBowl experience.

“What would a football game be without cheerleaders and dancers on the sidelines?” Esposito said. “I think it’s a part of sports in American culture to have them there and I think they provide an added boost to the overall game day experience.”

ArenaBowl XXVI is set to be played at the Amway Center in Orlando on Saturday, August 17. The game will be broadcast live on the CBS Television Network at 1 p.m. ET.

The Memphis Grizzlies will be holding first round auditions for the 2013-14 Grizz Girls dance team presented by Gold Strike Casino Resort on Saturday, June 22 at Mallory Gymnasium at Rhodes College at 9 a.m. Before the best dancers throughout the Mid-South assemble for the audition, the Grizzlies are offering prospective team members the chance to participate in pre-audition clinics and classes that will give them a leg up on the competition.

The two clinics, which will offer prospective team members the opportunity to learn the routine that will be used at the audition from Grizz Girls choreographer Tamara Moore, will be held Thursday, June 13 and Thursday, June 20 at the New Ballet Ensemble Dance Studio (2157 York Avenue) from 7-9 p.m. The cost per clinic is $25 each, or $40 for both sessions. Interested dancers may pre-register at Grizzlies.com.

Leading up to the pre-audition clinics, Moore will also hold Girl Play Classes that will teach participants basic techniques and performance tips alongside current members of the Grizz Girls every Tuesday and Thursday. Tuesday classes will be held at Sub Roy Studios (644 S. Highland Ave.) at 7:30 p.m. while Thursday classes will be at New Ballet Ensemble (2157 York Ave.) at 6:30 p.m. Classes are $10 per session and $6 for college students who have a valid student ID. Dancers of all skills levels are invited to take part in the classes, pre-audition clinics and audition. Register for the pre-audition clinics and classes.

“The pre-audition clinics and classes allow prospective team members a chance to see what it takes to be a Grizz Girl,” said Moore. “Through our clinics, classes and auditions, we think that we’ll be able to put together the most entertaining and talented dance team in the entire NBA.”

While participation in the pre-audition clinics and classes is encouraged, all qualified dancers are invited to participate in the June 22 first round audition at Rhodes College (2000 N. Parkway). Once these auditions are completed, the group of finalists will compete for a spot on the 2013-14 Grizz Girls team at the Final Auditions on Sunday, June 30 at the Gold Strike Casino Resort in Tunica, Miss. The Final Audition will begin at 4 p.m. in the Millennium Theatre and the event will be free and open to the public.

Prospective dancers must be a high school graduate and at least 18 years of age to participate in the Grizz Girls audition. For more information on auditions visit our Frequently Asked Questions page or, call (901) 205-1411 or e-mail grizzgirls@grizzlies.com.
