A less than satisfying season for the Philadelphia Eagles, but you can’t blame that on the Cheerleaders.

At the away game party at Buckets in Jenkintown, Charnei holds up her calendar photo. The first-year Cheerleader says she has plans to try out again next year. Here’s hoping we see her on the 2013 squad.

Between Christmas and New Year’s we are showcasing the year’s favorite photos from our contributors.

Philadelphia Eagles Cheerleader Marissa, taken July 18, 2012.

So the first time I did Photo of the Year, it was just a spur of the moment. I posted an especially favorite photo from Redskins Fan Day and thus a tradition was born. Over the past three years, I have found myself the choice for the next POTY all year long, and if I don’t have some candidates by about September, I start to get nervous.

This year, Philadelphia Eagles Cheerleader Marissa made quite an impression on me during a pre-season game. She showed a lot of energy and enthusiasm and was a terrific photographic subject. And she earned Photo of the Day back on August 13th. So I started looking back in my archives and I found this photo from the Eagles Calendar Release Party at the NovaCare Complex in South Philly.

I had stationed myself to side of the stage an was very fortunate to catch Marissa as she entered an struck a pose.

Marissa is Miss October in the Eagles Cheerleaders 2012-13 Eco-Friendly Swimsuit Calendar. She’s wearing a bikini is made of re-purposed materials, a buriti palm belt and natural feather earrings.

I saw you guys were posting your favorite pic of 2012 so I thought I would send you mine. It’s from the Buccaneers vs Saints Throwback Game I finally got a chance to attend.I like most of the NFL cheerleaders uniforms but since this one only shows up once a year it is rare and hard to find really good pics of them. Enjoy, Kevin

From PhiladelphiaEagles.com:

Casey, a 3rd year veteran of the squad, has been chosen to represent the Philadelphia Eagles Cheerleaders at the 2013 Pro Bowl as well as for the inaugural Pro Bowl Cheerleader tour to China. The announcement came during the 1st quarter break of the Eagles vs. Redskins game on December 23rd at Lincoln Financial Field. Casey said, “I’m so honored. All of my teammates are such amazing and talented women and it’s very special to be representing them and the Eagles organization.”

Casey will be in Honolulu, Hawaii from January 21st through January 30th and will take part in numerous appearances during Pro Bowl week. The events include a visit to Shriner’s Hospital and the Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children as well as multiple military base visits where she will meet local members of the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines. Casey will also appear at the Waikiki Pro Bowl Block Party and many events that have been scheduled for fans and sponsors. She will also be a part of Pro Bowl Ohana Day where fans can get a close look at the players, cheerleaders, and game entertainment before the big game. The festivities conclude on Sunday, January 27th, when Casey will perform at Aloha Stadium and cheer on the NFC team during the 2013 Pro Bowl!

When asked what she is most excited about, Casey said, “There are three things. One, obviously, I’m really looking forward to the game and I think it will be great to see each cheerleader bring their own style! Two, I’m excited to make new friends and meet new people. Three, I’m eager to get out into the community and do appearances.”

Following the Pro Bowl, Casey will take part in the first-ever Pro Bowl Cheerleader tour to China. The tour lasts from January 30th through February 5th and will make stops in Beijing and Shanghai. Throughout the week, Casey will make a number of appearances in coordination with the NFL and NFL China. Casey was one of just eight Pro Bowl Cheerleaders selected for the China Tour. Casey said, “I am truly privileged to have been chosen to represent the NFL and the Philadelphia Eagles along with seven other NFL Cheerleaders in China. I can’t wait to have the opportunity to meet and interact with China’s NFL fan base!”

During her three year career as an Eagles Cheerleader, Casey has been featured on major television networks and prestigious national print and online publications including Esquire, Sports Illustrated, The NFL Magazine and ESPN.com, as well as on the cover of the popular Lindy’s Pro Football magazine. She was also a celebrity video blogger for 6ABC during the 2011 Eagles Cheerleaders Auditions. Casey is prominently showcased in the highly publicized Eagles Cheerleaders Eco-Friendly Swimsuit Calendar and Calendar App. A talented and accomplished dancer, she recently performed at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama where she cheered on the top NFL draft prospects.

In addition to being a crowd favorite at Lincoln Financial Field, Casey has represented the Eagles Cheerleaders at many high profile events including the celebrity-studded amFAR Inspirational Gala in New York City. She also traveled to Kuwait along with five of her teammates as a part of a Goodwill Military Tour to perform for US servicemen and women stationed in the Middle East. Casey is very involved in giving back to the community as a volunteer with the Eagles Youth Partnership Playground Build, Huddle Up for Autism, and Tackling Breast Cancer programs.

Casey added, “Giving back to the community is something that is very important to me. On our trip to Kuwait, I loved being able to bring a piece of home to the US military serving in the Middle East. At appearances, I always enjoy interacting with fans and having the opportunity to thank them for their support.”

A native of Glen Mills, PA, Casey graduated Cum Laude from West Chester University in May, 2012 where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management. Casey is currently working as a Recruiter for an IT Technical Staffing Agency.

From Raiders.com:

The 2012 Raiderette awards were presented during halftime of the Raiders final home game December 16. The Raiderette of the Year Award was presented to Kelly, the Dancer of the Year to Natalie, and Rookie of the Year to Michelle.

Kelly was surprised when her name was called. “Complete and utter shock,” said Kelly. “I didn’t believe that they called my name. I just kind of stood there for a little bit until I realized people were looking at me and yes, they did call my name.”

The third-year Raiderette is honored to be representing the Raiders at the 2013 Pro Bowl in Hawaii. “It’s a complete honor to know that my sisters voted for me and wanted me to represent them at the 2013 Pro Bowl,” said Kelly. “There are so many amazing women on our team that almost anyone is qualified and would do a great job representing us. There are so many people that are deserving of the title and of the award so I feel truly touched and honored that my teammates chose to me to represent them.”

It’s hard to picture a cheerleader throwing punches and kicks inside the ring and it’s even harder to picture MMA fighters in cheerleader costumes on the sidelines of NFL games. Well, not anymore. Former Kansas City Chiefs cheerleader Rachel Wray (no, not Rachael Ray of Food Network fame) has ditched the pom poms for sparring partners as she made the transition from NFL cheerleader to MMA fighter, according to KCMMA.com.

“Last year, I was a Chiefs cheerleader,” she said. “I have been a cheerleader or dancer my whole life and I moved here from Arkansas to cheer for the Kansas City Chiefs. I started working out at Title Boxing Club with some of the girls for an alternative workout. I really enjoyed it and started taking private lessons after a little while. One day, I came in and they wanted me to spar. I was nervous about someone actually punching me in the face, but I did it.” Things didn’t get off to a smooth start inside the ring, but she didn’t quit — she fought even harder. “I was absolutely horrible,” she added. “This drove me to want it even more. I knew I had to make a choice between fighting and cheerleading. I chose fighting.” Check out the videos below of one of her recent fights, where she absolutely destroys her opponent in the second round.
