Ultimate Cheerleaders

Dancer-actress Micaela Johnson of Omaha was called from the audience to “come on down” in Thursday’s airing of “The Price is Right.”

The show was taped in Los Angeles in October, and Micaela won a dishwasher, a stove, a refrigerator and other items worth about $6,300.

The 2003 Marian High graduate, who will graduate this spring from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, has been auditioning and working in L.A. Her mother, X-ray technician Anna Johnson of Omaha, suggested they try to get on a show.

They waited in line for hours and were interviewed by the show’s producers, who started to move on to the next person. Then Anna added to what Micaela modestly hadn’t mentioned: “She’s also a former Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader and a Miss Nebraska USA!”

When taping began, the audience was so loud that Micaela didn’t hear her name called — her mom excitedly pointed it out on a cue card.

The game was fun, especially with singer Chris Daughtry taking part, but “game show contestant” isn’t the line on her résumé she’s been hoping to add.

She has a team of agents and recently taped an episode of the popular TV comedy “Modern Family,” in which she plays a bride. Micaela, who turned 27 on Jan. 1, is single — and she chuckled at the irony of playing a bride in front of millions of viewers. This year in Omaha she will serve as a bridesmaid for, believe it or not, the 27th time.

She also has written a children’s book about a girl cooking with her parents, and has been hired to dance in a show on Oprah Winfrey’s OWN network.

Watch the episode (Micaela is the first contestant called) here.

On Friday, December 16, Ft. Carson Exchange welcomed four members of the Miami Dolphins Cheerleading team to the installation! The first stop on their whirlwind tour was to the 4th Infantry/4thBrigade, where they met with troops and their families who are preparing to deploy to Afghanistan in early 2012. The ladies were a welcome sight to all ages, and they were happy to sign squad photos and pose for pictures. They even managed to find a little bit of snow on a clear, sunny day in Colorado Springs!

The ladies also visited the Ft. Carson Kennels for a K-9 demonstration. They were given the chance to suit-up and be this working dogs chew-toy! A visit to the Ft. Carson Thunder Alley Bowling Lanes completed a busy day and bowlers really appreciated the cheerleaders taking the time to visit…and of course to bowl.

Eager Miami Dolphin fans started to line up on a busy Saturday for the in-store meet and greet. There were lots of Miami Dolphins jerseys and t-shirts to be seen in the store that day. For many fans these pictures would be their 2011 Christmas cards! Powerzone SAM Sean Mc Coy (a die-hard Dolphins fan) thought that Christmas had come early for him! The visit was a huge success, and our customers were thrilled with the opportunity to meet these lovely ladies. Their smiles and support of the military community during this busy holiday season was greatly appreciated, and a huge boost to the morale of the Ft. Carson service members and their families!

Team Bliss welcomed members of the NFLs Arizona Cardinals cheerleading team to Freedom Crossing, Dec. 15.

Members of the team posed for pictures and signed autographs for servicemembers and their families.

Travelling and visiting servicemembers and their families has had a huge impact on the team, said Erin, one of the cheerleaders.

“Nobody close to me is in the military,” said Erin. “I was a little ignorant. I now look at the flag differently. Knowing the sacrifices the servicemembers make, I now appreciate where I come from so much more.”

“I am really humbled by this experience,” said Tessa, a rookie with the squad. “I don’t have the courage to do what these men and women do. If the best I can do is bring some cheer to them, then I am more than happy to try and do my part.”

Team Bliss members were happy to have the cheerleaders.

“This is awesome that they support the troops,” said Chief Warrant Officer 2 Huram Torres, the maintenance technician for 47th Brigade Support Battalion, 2nd Brigade, 1st Armored Division, who is also from Phoenix and a Cardinals fan. “Something like this is really good for morale for the troops.”
“To have beautiful women come here and thank us is very nice,” said Spc. Joseph Byerhof, a track vehicle mechanic for 47th BSB. “Not everyone has that luxury.”
Later in the evening, the team put on a variety show for Team Bliss with the holiday theme “A Christmas Carol,” that included participation from children in the audience.
The team is hoping that the visit can turn into an annual event at Fort Bliss.

Members of the squad visited The Children’s Hospital at Providence in El Paso the day prior.
