caseyaWhile the 91 other remaining Colts cheerleader hopefuls were performing in front of judges on April 22, Yorktown’s Kasey Ashley was lying in a hospital bed with a kidney infection.

When her mother, Lisa, called the coach to tell her of Kasey’s situation, she expected the coach not to know who she was talking about, what with nearly 100 candidates, and for Ashley simply to be invited to try again next year. Quite the opposite happened.

The coach told Lisa she knew exactly who Kasey was and that her scores were high enough already to take her to the finals despite missing the practice.

“She said to tell her that ‘her health is the most important thing,'” Lisa said. “Tell her to ‘get healthy and be back Tuesday to learn a new dance.'”

The Yorktown High School senior is now in the final 66 and will compete in the final round, the Cheerleader Audition Showcase at 7:30 p.m. May 5 at Plainfield High School.

Voting for the public’s favorite cheerleader is still open online at www.colts.com. As of April 27, Ashley had moved up to second place on the leader board. To vote for Kasey Ashley, look for number 247.

jmjEver wonder what happened to ‘Girlfriends’ actress Jill Marie Jones?

Well, she’s landed a gig — that is on, putting her in great company.

Following in the footsteps of TBS’s highly-successful micro-series ‘My Manny,’ which starred Elise Neal, comes a new series starring the woman who played the brazen real estate saleswoman Toni Childs.

The Baileys spokesperson and former Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader will star as the title character Gillian in a new series called ‘Gillian in Georgia,’ which follows a hip, single New Yorker who visits her family in a small town in Georgia.

The show will also star ‘Stomp the Yard’ actor Darrin Henson as her love interest, ‘Napoleon Dynamite’ actress Shondrella Avery as her sister and James Mathis II, who appeared in ‘The Matrix.’

It will make its debut during commercial segments following TBS’s ‘Tyler Perry’s Meet the Browns’ at 8 pm on April 28 with two new episodes showing each Wednesday for five consecutive weeks within commercial time.

‘Gillian in Georgia’ is sponsored exclusively by Chevy Malibu, which will be prominently featured in the show, particularly to show how the show’s main character uses a Chevy Malibu car to get around town.

Come show off your moves and tryout for the Chesapeake Bayhawks’ 2010 Dance Team!

First look at the new squad who were unveiled to the public at the Jags Draft Day Party last week.

A few more photos courtesy of Pro Bowl Dan, who made it all the way to Kansas City for day one of the NFL Draft, but was back on Saturday for the Redskins Draft Party.

Probably the last game appearance of the Buffalo Bandettes, unless the playoffs break in their favor.

Phil’s got photos and video from the game.

The Old Navy Modelquins that have been featured in the recent TV ads are the latest fans of the Jacksonville Axemen and were only too happy to pose for some group photos at a recent appearance at Old Navy located at the River City Market (near Jacksonville International Airport). There was a rumor that one of the Axemen players asked one of the Modelquins out for dinner, but she had to decline due to working 24/7 at the store.

In addition to the light hearted fun during this great appearance, the Axemen and Axe Maidens also spread the word about the Axemen and Rugby League to the hundreds of people who crammed the store to take advantage of the discounts during the grand re-opening. The appearance was a great success with one lucky customer walking away with a $500 shopping spree and another with a 4 pack of Axemen season tickets.

Two of the Dance Dawgs will not be dancing for the University basketball games next semester.

Reneau Kadis and Bristen Mann became the two newest members of the Atlanta Falcons cheerleading squad after auditioning for four days in Atlanta.

Bristen Mann and Reneau Kadis, two University Dance Dawgs, have been selected to serve as new Atlanta Falcons football cheerleaders.

Both dancers said the try-outs were a rigorous experience.

“It was definitely nerve-racking, but exciting at the same time,” Mann said.

Kadis, a senior and captain of the Dance Dawgs, said her four years on the squad helped her with the move to the Falcons.

“It’s definitely prepared me for the next level,” she said. “I have seen so much progress in the four years I’ve been in the spirit program.”

The Atlanta Falcons’ five-day audition hosted more than 250 girls who performed in front of 15 judges, said Ashley Clark, dance coordinator for the Dance Dawgs.

“That week is really kind of hectic for anybody,” said Clark of the audition week. “You know you can dance and you know you have a good body, but you never know what the judges are looking for.”

With eight out of the 32 total cheerleaders on the Falcons squad coming from the University, the Dance Dawgs have a “rich tradition” of sending members to the Atlanta Falcons, Clark said.

“We’ve had at least 10 to 15 Dance Dawgs make the Atlanta Falcons,” she said.

Kadis, who has danced and cheered since an early age, said she was more.than nervous to move onto the Falcons.

“It’s kind of scaring me to go to the next level,” she said, “but it’s a really exciting opportunity.”

Mann said she agreed making the Atlanta Falcons was a thrill.

“I’m finally going to get paid to do what I love,” she said.

Last Friday was the final game of the season for the Philadelphia Wings Angels. Originally, the game was to be played in February, but a massive snowstorm caused the game to be re-scheduled.

So the atmosphere was a bit like the last day of school or graduation day, and things got silly!

(This is a bit in reverse, since I haven’t posted the Eagles Cheerleaders Final Auditions from last Tuesday, yet.)

With the new three-day NFL Draft Format, the Eagles changed things up a bit and held their Draft Day Party on Thursday, instead of the traditional Saturday date.

But the tradition of unveiling the new Eagles Cheerleader squad at the party was kept intact.

Fans were also treated to four performances.

I gave Josh one of my cameras and he took a few photos. Also reader Mike sent us a few of his from Draft Day. They are all in the gallery.
