Carolina Correspondent Rick Reports:

A chilly 43 degree day in Charlotte did not stop the Topcats from their usual appearances. They were bundled up and ready to cheer on the Panthers to a hard fought victory over the division rival Buccaneers.

Phil from the Buffalo Pro Cheer Blog tells us:

It’s that time of year again, when NFL Cheerleaders select their Pro Bowl representatives, this year sending their representatives to Miami for the January 31st AFC-NFC All-Star game. This year’s selection should be no surprise to anyone as it’s 4th year vet and captain Christina. She started off her career as a Jill as the only rookie member of the Events Dance Team and also won the 2006 Rookie of The Year. In 2008, she was named a co-captain for Omarlla’s line and moved over to Nicole’s line this season. However, after Nicole resigned suddenly, Christina took over handling the captain duties on her own and doing a great job with it, obviously.

As I mentioned earlier, I was in Jacksonville on Sunday for the Texans-Jaguars game.

roar035

It’s supposed be warm in Florida, but at game time the temperature was in the low 50s. That didn’t stop the ROAR from performing in short shorts and half-zipped up satin jackets. The Football Gods smiled on this display of Cheerleader Professionalism and the Jaguars defeated the Texans 23-18.

roar047

And not only was it cold, it was windy!

ROAR Manager Christy Stechman Zynda

And Christy has the ROAR working so hard they are literally wearing out the field. The grounds crew came around during the first quarter to spread grass seed on the bare spots where the ROAR have been performing this season.

roar102In the second half the ROAR changed into their black satin jackets.

roar112
And it was even colder by the fourth quarter. I believe I saw the NFL’s reddest redhead, Kelley, shivering at one point.

roar132

Kristen’s line circles up after the victory.

roar136
After the game Darlene, Laurie, Kristen and Liana. (That big gift basket is Laurie’s!).

In addition to her job, Darlene (who cheered for the ROAR for 3 seasons) is a founding member of the Professional Cheerleaders Alumni, the Director the AMNRL Jacksonville Axe Maidens, and Chief Communications Officer for the Sweethearts for Soldiers.

Five-year veteran and line captain Laurie (this is her last year) is Miss River City USA 2009 and is the founder of PROJECT GIRL TALK – a teen advocacy program. After graduation (she’s completing her master’s degree in health administration) she will be pursuing a career as a United States Navy Officer. More at LaurieConley.com.

Kristen is a five-year veteran and another line-captain. She’s a graduate of Bethune-Cookman University with a B.A. in sociology. She’s also a graduate student pursing a MA in counseling and works as a counselor.

Liana was a member of the ROAR for three seasons and represented her squad at the 2009 Pro Bowl. She’s a practicing attorney and received her juris doctorate degree from Stetson University College of Law.

That’s just four examples of the extraordinary women who cheer (or have cheered for) The ROAR. It was a great pleasure to meet such accomplished women.

I even got to meet Laurie’s Mom, who’s a wonderful lady and a big fan of theblog. She told me to make sure to feature this photo on the blog!

Congratulations to Carolina TopCat Kelli who will be representing her squad at the 2010 Pro Bowl next month. Kelli is a 5-year veteran of the TopCats and a student.

The announcement was made in the TopCats locker room during their Christmas party so that her teammates and sisters could find out first.

redhots

The 2010 Redhots squad will be an energetic and dynamic promotional squad who will be highly visible at Redbirds’ games and in the community. The Redhots bring tremendous amounts of energy to the Redbirds’ organization, adding to the overall entertainment value of each and every home game. Redhots participate nightly in in-game promotions and interact with fans entering & exiting the ballpark.

The Redhots’ energy is carried over into the community as they are an important part of the Redbirds in and outside of AutoZone Park. Along with their presence at each Redbirds’ home game, this attractive and talented group of women will make numerous appearances at trade shows, promotional events, and charitable events in Memphis and the surrounding communities.

Interviews for the 2010 RedHots squad will take place in early 2010. Yesterday, I posted that the Rocky Mountain RockStarz had auditioned for America’s Best Dance Crew Season 5 and incorrectly identified the group as former Nuggets Dancers.

I’ve got the straight scoop today along with a pair of never-before-seen photos of the RockStarz.

Founded by Kristin Engler Brooks in 2007, the Rocky Mountain RockStarz is an elite group of former professional cheerleaders and dancers with credentials including the Los Angeles Lakers, St. Louis Rams, Denver Nuggets, Washington Wizards, Kansas City Chiefs and many other teams.

RockStarz is a performance group that maintains their remarkable dance style through exclusive performances. As professional dancers, RockStarz share their talent through youth dance clinics, seminars, performing and other community service. Community outreach is the RockStarz number one commitment.

The Rocky Mountain RockStarz are committed to helping various local and national charity organizations. Whether it is running a dance clinic, giving motivational speeches, encouraging fitness/healthy lifestyle, or performing, the RockStarz leave a lasting impression on those they work with.
The RockStarz are currently co-directed between Megan Savage, a highly accredited dancer/performer, and Kristin Engler Brooks (“KE”). Sarah Schachterle (“Shack”) is the official choreographer for the RockStarz. Shack is one of the leading choreographers in the industry and has been working with the RockStarz for the last three seasons.
