Bridget Martin, a 2014 graduate of Stowe High School, has been selected to the Patriots’ 2015 cheerleading squad, one of 28 women who made the cut out of 300 hopefuls from around the country.

The announcement was made Tuesday afternoon, and Martin was already in Foxborough, Mass., at the Patriots’ home turf at Gillette Stadium. She was too busy to talk over the phone, but took a few moments to email her thoughts to her hometown newspaper before it went to press.

“So far it has been a whirlwind of experiences, information and meeting new people. I have enjoyed every moment and am so humbled to have been selected for the 2015-16 New England Patriots cheerleading squad!” Martin said.

“As a Patriots cheerleader, I will not only be cheering at the games on the sidelines, but doing many promotional and charity events. I hope to see a lot of Vermonters at the games and supporting the New England Patriots this season!”

The road to the 2015 squad was a hard one, a monthlong audition process that included a two-week boot camp at the end of March. The boot camp put the cheerleaders though intensive training sessions that tested their fitness, dance moves and public speaking prowess.

Chris Eaton, Stowe High School’s hockey and golf coach, had Martin on his varsity golf squad, and said she earned the Kirkwood scholarship her senior year. Eaton said she’s smart, too, graduating in less than four years.

“She was a very smart young lady, just came out and did her own thing,” Eaton said.

In 2010, Martin, then 14, was crowned Miss Teen Vermont.

The Patriots Cheerleaders rehearse twice a week and perform at all the team’s home games, in front of 70,000 fans. This June, they will also travel to Punta Cana, in the Dominican Republic, to shoot the team’s annual swimsuit calendar and video.

Jessica Strohm of Falmouth is one of eleven rookies on the team

From CapeCodToday.com

patsA native Cape Codder has been chosen for the 2015 Patriots Cheerleaders Squad. In a release Tuesday, the Patriots announced the addition of eleven rookies on the team. One of those rookies is Jessica Strohm of Falmouth. Strohm, a 2008 graduate of Falmouth High School, graduated from Bristol Community College in 2010 and has worked in the in the food service industry and as a paralegal, according to her LinkedIn profile. She is the daughter of Greg and Kimberlee Strohm, who reside in Falmouth.

Prior to trying out for the Pats Cheerleaders, Strohm recently competed for Miss Massachusetts 2014. In 2014 she won the Miss New England States title and the Miss Tri-State Massachusetts title and in 2013 she was Miss Rhode Islands USA first runner up.

Strohm and her fellow 2015 teammates made it through a month-long audition which began with open auditions and ended with Patriots Cheerleaders Boot Camp. In all, 300 women applied for a coveted spot on the squad. The squad will practice twice a week and perform at all Pats home games in Foxboro. A spot on a squad can open many doors through travel and in-person and local and national television appearances. In June, the squad will travel to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic to shoot their swimsuit calendar and Sideline to Shoreline video. Photos from the calendar shoot will be posted on the Patriots website and the photo with the most fan likes will be included in the calendar.

Most of the 28 ladies on the 2015 team are from the Pats’ home state of Massachusetts, but a few are from as far away as California, Texas and Oregon.

The Kansas City Chiefs Cheerleaders are revisiting Saint Lucia’s Coconut Bay Beach Resort & Spa for their 2015-2016 swimsuit calendar photoshoot, April 9-14, 2015.  This is the first time that the organization has returned to a destination for their annual destination photoshoot.

The resort’s 85-acre landscape and mile-long beach will offer stunning shoot locations as home base for the squad as they capture the south coast beauty from sunrise to sunset. They’ll also visit the attractions that make Saint Lucia an award-winning destination from the seeing the World Heritage Pitons from a catamaran to Pigeon Island National Park.

“We are honored to be the first resort and first destination the Chiefs Cheerleaders have chosen to visit twice.  We look forward to welcoming them again.  They are wonderful ambassadors for the team and we know our guests will enjoy spending time with them as they enjoy the best our island and our resort has to offer,” says Mark Adams, President and CEO of Coconut Bay. “Our guests will have several opportunities to mingle, get autographs and photos with the squad during the course of their visit.”

Coconut Bay’s varied amenities and family-friendly activities will be the center of the action as the Chiefs Cheerleaders pose for the camera and have some fun behind the scenes. The squad will take to the ocean in kayaks and on stand-up paddleboards. The adults-only Harmony Pool, one of five at the resort, the oceanfront spa, waterfalls and sundecks will serve as the perfect backdrops for sunrise photoshoots and unwinding later. The squad will also have some good old fashioned fun as they enjoy many resort offerings from horseback riding and Segway tours to tubing around the Lazy River and twisting down the slides in the CocoLand Waterpark, Saint Lucia’s largest.

Ni Hao from Beijing, China!

sixers

Amanda and Rachael here, just finishing up our rookie season with the Philadelphia 76ers! The two of us, along with four of our teammates, were chosen to represent the Sixers organization in Beijing, and the experience was amazing! Our three days here were filled with performances, appearances, and the wonderful opportunity to explore this beautiful city.

We boarded a 15-hour flight on Monday morning and arrived in Beijing on Tuesday afternoon. That evening, we had a rehearsal at the Convention Center of China for our performance the next day. Wednesday morning began with an early meeting with our tour guide and a trip to the Forbidden City. The Forbidden City consists of 9,999 and 1/2 rooms that were once used for many different purposes. Afterwards, we were able to attend a traditional Chinese Tea Ceremony which was enlightening and fun. Later that evening, we arrived at the National Convention Center of China to perform our five routines. We were provided with the opportunity to perform at two different venues. The first venue was to promote one of NBA China’s sponsors, Harbin Beer. The second performance was at a large dinner gala in front of over 1,000 people for the entire promotional event. To close up the evening, we attended a traditional Chinese dinner at a famous restaurant in the heart of Beijing

The next day, we ventured to the country side to visit the Great Wall of China. We successfully climbed through six towers of the Great Wall! As we continued our climb, we experienced a changes in weather, from fog to rain and even snow! After our descent back down the mountain side, we were educated about bartering with the local shop-keepers to purchase keepsakes for our family and friends.

After the long ride back to the city, we were presented with an amazing opportunity! We were invited to visit the NBA China office. Upon arrival, we were able to meet many of the staff and take a tour of the entire office. It was a great experience and was really fun to see the connections between the NBA in the U.S. and China. To prepare for our long ride home, we were able to experience a traditional Chinese massage.

Overall, being able to visit Beijing was an amazing opportunity in itself. The most memorable site we saw was definitely the Great Wall. The sheer length of the wall and the fact that it was all hand made was astounding! But our favorite part of the trip was being able to represent the Philadelphia 76ers organization as well as the league in NBA China’s Harbin Beer Event. We’re so thankful for this life-changing opportunity. Until next time, zai jian!
