Ultimate Cheerleaders

NASHVILLE, Tenn — When five-year-old Tru walks onto LP Field as a Junior Titans Cheerleader later this season, her mom will have one of the best views in the house. Her mom happens to be Tiffany, a Titans Cheerleader who can’t wait to experience the thrill of game day with her daughter.

“To see the sheer excitement on Tru’s face when she talks about being a Junior Titans Cheerleader will be priceless,” said Tiffany, who spent a decade in music industry as a recording artist before auditioning for the Titans Cheerleaders. “She loves performing, and can’t wait to get out on that field. It’s going to be such an incredible moment for me to share with her.”

Fifth year Titans Cheerleader, Stephanie A. is the mother of three-year-old daughter, Reese, who keeps her busy when she’s not at practice or working as the communications specialist for the Cracker Barrel Corporation.

“My husband calls me ‘Polly Planner.’ I’m extremely organized and schedule-oriented,” said Stephanie. “Being ‘mommy’ and wife always comes first, so I have a lot of late nights and super early mornings to make sure I stay on top of my workouts and my career. Thankfully, my husband and parents are tremendously helpful, and my company is extremely supportive of my involvement with the Titans.”

Although she has very little truly free time, Stephanie said the sacrifice is well worth it.

“Life gets chaotic, but being a part of the NFL and the Tennessee Titans organization specifically, is an experience like no other and has created memories and friendships that I will cherish forever.”

Fortunately, both women have very supportive husbands. Tiffany has been married to Bryan for almost 10 years.

“With Titans Cheerleading being such a huge time commitment, Bryan definitely had to be on board,” she said. “He juggles his real estate career around my practices and appearances, but he couldn’t be more proud. He’s been to every game, every calendar release party, and every Christmas party!”

Both Tiffany and Stephanie are line captains on the team — a position that adds even more time commitment to being a Titans Cheerleader — but neither one minds the extra work.

“Being a line captain is similar to being a mom,” said Tiffany. “I care so much about these young women and want to see them succeed. I have a protective nature, as well as a diplomatic outlook, so that helps with both being a mother and a captain!”

Although their free time is limited, both Stephanie and Tiffany agree that they wouldn’t change a thing and hope that they can show other mothers that it is possible to balance a successful home life, while pursuing activities they enjoy.

“Being a part of the Titans Organization is an extraordinary honor,” Stephanie said. “The experiences I’ve had over the last five years as a Tennessee Titans Cheerleader have helped shape who I am. It has taught me about life, health, responsibility, and commitment. I can honestly say being a part of this team has made me a better woman, wife, and mother. All moms should realize that they can have the best of both worlds — finding activities they love and being a great mom at the same time!”

So you all know that the Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders did a video to Carly Rae’s “Call Me Maybe.” The video went viral. Everyone has seen it.

Even our boys in Afghanistan.

There must be a lot of down time out there in the desert, because they managed to recreate the Cheerleader video with a mind blowing degree of accuracy. I’m not talking just about the choreography, but every nuance, every wink, every booty shot. They had to improvise now and then, using cots for beach chairs, mop heads for poms, and combat boots instead of go-gos with 3 inch heels. I can only imagine the number of times these guys watched the cheerleader video (in slow-mo no doubt) to pull this off. I hope the Dolphins Cheerleaders get a chance to watch this video, and maybe even get in touch with these knuckleheads. Send them some autographed photos or something, because this kind of effort should not go unrewarded.

And dudes? Thank you for not wearing bikinis.

Ok, so what does this have to do with the Panthers Ice Dancers? As far as I can tell – nothing. I read the article twice and there’s no mention of the Panthers. But there must be some kind of relationship there because the Ice Dancers did a photo shoot in one of the Pinktober hotel rooms.

Rookie ChivaGirl Mekayla
May 19, 2012

I owe Mekayla a huuuuuge apology. A few months ago, I congratulated her teammates Andi and Melissa for being selected to the 2012-13 Laker Girls. But I didn’t mention Miss Mekayla, who also made Lakers. Bad Sasha! Bad! Honestly, I can’t remember if I didn’t know about Mekayla at the time, or if I just had a complete brain fart. In any case, I’m super proud of her, so I’m here to make amends.

Congratulations Mekayla!
Yo go girl!

Hardcourt Halloween: NBA licenses sexy ‘dance team’ costumes
By Adam Tschorn

October 4, 2012, 10:32 a.m.

Since the NBA season officially gets underway the day before All Hallows Eve, perhaps it’s fitting that one of the National Basketball Assn.’s latest licensing deals is for women’s Halloween costumes.

Described by the NBA as “dance team costumes” (as opposed to, say, “sexy team groupie costumes,” or “sexy cheerleader uniforms”), the collection includes body-hugging, leg-baring riffs on the uniforms of five teams: the Boston Celtics, Dallas Mavericks, Miami Heat, New York Knicks and Los Angeles Lakers.

The three-piece 100% polyester costumes, which consist of a top, a pair of color-coordinated knee-high athletic socks and either a super-short skirt or hotpants, are being sold nationwide through Party City’s retail stores and website and retail in the $50 to $60 range.

There’s a Los Angeles connection deeper than the sexy Lakers uniforms, too. The licensee behind the costumes is L.A.-based, family-owned lingerie and costume company Leg Avenue, which creates costumes under license for all kinds of entertainment properties including “Flashdance,” “Top Gun,” and new for 2012, “Grease.” (The company’s motto? “Leg Avenue … No one does sexy better!”)

The new Halloween costumes are just the latest in a range of efforts by professional sports leagues to acknowledge — and cater to — their female fan base, including team-inspired high heels (licensed by the NBA) and a Swarovski-crystal-encrusted T-shirt created by Marchesa co-founder Georgina Chapman for New York Jets fans, that was unveiled by the NFL on Oct. 2.

Honestly, I don’t know how I missed this. The first episode has already aired. I think you can still catch repeats of episode two. Hopefully they’ll put the series online somewhere ~ sasha

…Blah blah blah. More stuff about Sportsnet and the Lakers. Blah blah blah.

There’s a very short excerpt from Episode two on the Sportsnet website [click here to watch]. It’s all about “the girl in the white bikini” aka, Andi, who happens to be one of my girls. Not that I’m bragging. Well, I guess I sort of am. A little bit.

So I’m proud of her. Sue me.

On the one hand, Andi looks fantastic. That is exactly how you should show up to an NBA audition. But on the other hand, I really wish they’d knock it off with the Baywatch-style slow-mo panning up and down her body.

Ok I get it that she’s dancing around in a little white bikini. But that’s Andi. She’s barely out of her teens and she’s a really sweet girl and not annoying at all. So knock it off already. (Attention stalkers: Andi has two very large brothers who will squash you like an insect if you mess with their sister.)

And on a side note, that white bikini was a stroke of genius. Wearing an all-white outfit to an audition always makes you stand out in the crowd. It’s much more impactful than wearing any other color from head to toe. In my opinion anyway.

The Falcons wore their throwback uniforms during last Sunday’s victory over the Carolina Panthers. The Falcons Cheerleaders also got into the spirit, wearing uniforms similar to those worn between 1994 and 1997. -97 seasons. The next throwback game is scheduled for Thursday, November 29. Who knows what they’ll wear for that one!

Sidebar: the Falcons website notes that these uniforms are 80s inspired. Not so much. The only part of those outfits they wore in the 80s was the sequin headband. And while I appreciate the AFC going to the trouble of wearing retro accessories in addition to the outfits, those headbands must’ve left some gnarly marks on many a forehead.

Here’s the original, from the 1994-95 season:
