The dreams of cheering on their favorite team will soon come true for two Bucks County residents.
Renee Carelli, 25, of Bensalem, and Julie Warner, 22, of Bristol Township, have been chosen to join the 2014-2015 Philadelphia Eagles cheerleading squad. The two made it through a number of physical fitness, dancing and modeling tryouts before making the 38-member team.
“I’m born and raised in Philadelphia and have been cheerleading (since I was young), so I’ve always wanted to do this,” Carelli said.
The 2007 Nazareth Academy High School graduate cheered for Father Judge High School before spending four years cheering for the Penn State Nittany Lions. She holds a 2013 master’s degree from La Salle University and works as a speech pathologist.
“I have two brothers and a very big family that loves the Eagles,” she said. “I am really looking forward to cheering at all the home games.”
Warner said she remembers watching Eagles games as a child.
“All my family would come over for Sunday games,” she said. “Ever since I was little, I wanted to be a cheerleader.”
The 2010 Neshaminy High School graduate, who grew up in Middletown, is an assistant manager of a clothing retail store. She said her background in dance includes training in tap, jazz, ballet, hip hop, contemporary and musical theater. “I started dancing when I was 2 years old,” she added.
Warner said she made it through to semifinals last year before being cut in the interview round. To her surprise, she was cut early in this year’s tryouts before organizers sent her an email asking her to return, she said.
“I was heartbroken,” she said. “It was a rough ride for me, but getting that email was everything.”
Warner said she believes her professionalism during tryouts were a big reason she got the callback.
“It is just the best feeling … my whole life changed,” she said. “You always have to be on your best behavior and have a professional manner at all times.”
Carelli, who auditioned for the first time this year, said she wants to participate in the squad’s community outreach programs. The cheerleaders spend hundreds of hours volunteering for charities that include the Eagles Youth Partnership, Eagles Tackling Breast Cancer and Eagles Go Green initiative, according to philadelphiaeagles.com.
“Each girl has something (a cause) close to their heart,” she said “I’m really looking forward to being a part of this great opportunity.”
Warner said she’s excited about helping the National Football League’s Play 60 campaign, which encourages kids to eat well and play at least 60 minutes every day, according to fueluptoplay60.com.
“It’s fun to keep the kids active,” Warner said. “I knew it (Eagles team) was a great organization to be a part of … I consider myself lucky.”
“We have very passionate fans and I’m looking forward to experiencing that,” Carelli said.

Today’s final audition resulted in 43 ladies invited to participate in the team’s three-month training camp. This includes 27 veterans and 16 potential rookies. The final team will be announced in August. Congratulations ladies!
Extra congrats to veteran Sydney, who is back for her seventh season. (Barring any major issues during training camp.) I don’t think anyone has been on the team that long since the 90s. That is not easy to do. This is a team that cuts veterans almost year (and this year was no exception. Three veterans were not invited back.) Also congrats to rookie candidate Vivian who (I’m almost positive, but will not swear to it) won the fan favorite vote again this year. Hopefully this year, she’ll take it all the way!
Update with additional details! Loren won the fan vote, not Vivian. However, I’m raising an eyebrow on this one. I checked the voting status all day on Saturday, and each time I checked, Vivian was in the #1 position. Dare I say…shenanigans? Maybe they decided on a “one win per candidate” policy.
Also, I didn’t intend to name the veterans who have been cut. That seems like rubbing salt in the wound, but then someone pointed out to me that if you’ve been cut from a team, it’s highly unlikely that you’re spending any time here in the days immediately after it happens. (If ever again.) So with that in mind, and because so many people have asked, the veterans in question were Morgan, Courtni, and Alex. Morgan and Courtni were rookies last year and Alex was a 2nd year veteran. Amelia, Carisa, Jackie, Kaitlyn, Kim, Lauren, Mackenzie, Mia, and Olivia retired. Everyone else is back for 2014 training camp.
Madelyn Wilson made the Patriots’ cheerleading team earlier this month.

TCU alum and former cheerleading captain Madelyn Wilson will be back on the field this season, but this time as a professional cheerleader with the New England Patriots.
“I definitely enjoy cheerleading,” Wilson said. “I enjoy preforming in front of an audience. It is something I really love to do. And, I love being a part of a team. I know these girls are going to be my best friends.
The Patriots announced the women who would be a part of their 2014-15 squad earlier this month. Wilson was one of 11 rookies to make the team.
“The audition process began in February with an optional workshop followed by preliminary and final auditions, interviews, and a two-week boot camp,” according to the team’s website.
For Wilson, cheerleading has been a team-first sport with a group she can rely on.
“That was how it was like at TCU,” Wilson said. “Those were my girls. They are the ones I leaned on for support and it was just awesome to be a part of the team. That’s what I use cheer for.”
Wilson said her experience auditioning for TCU cheer gave her an advantage in the professional-level process because she was used to working on a “tight ship” with TCU spirit coach Lindsay Westbrook.
Wilson’s cheerleading career began when she transitioned from gymnastics in eighth grade by joining the Pro Spirit All Stars, which is a competitive cheer team located in McKinney, Texas.
After five years of cheer experience, Wilson knew she wanted to continue cheering in college.
Once TCU rewarded Wilson with an academic scholarship, she signed up to try out for the squad. There she met one of her best friends and her future co-captain, Sarah Stallard.
“After just four short days of cheer camp, we were best friends,” Stallard said.”Once school started in August, we were inseparable.
“Maddy has always been a very talented cheerleader. She has beautiful jumps, impressive tumbling, and is a great dancer.”
Wilson’s time at TCU was spent split between cheer, Greek life and her honors college curriculum.
“I had like five calendars and I just planned every part of my day,” Wilson said.
The Patriots begin their season Aug. 7 in a preseason matchup against the Washington Redskins.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — In one of the toughest competitions in recent years, the Titans selected their 2014 cheerleading squad in front of a near capacity crowd Thursday night at the Wildhorse Saloon in Nashville.
Titans Director of Cheerleaders called Thursday night’s competition “extremely close” among the finalists.

“We had another beautiful and talented group this year,” Kinder said. “Ultimately the judges had to make some tough decisions. Only the slightest nuances separated the top 27, but I’m really excited about the final group. It’s going to be an amazing season!”
The squad had been trimmed from 200 to 48 ladies during preliminary auditions held last month at Saint Thomas Sports Park. The finalists spent the last few weeks rehearsing for Thursday night, while undergoing formal business interviews with Kinder. Celebrity judges helped narrow the final team to 27 ladies.
The cheerleaders will have little time to celebrate as they prepare to leave Monday for their 2014 photo shoot at the Pearl, a high-end luxury resort located along Florida’s Emerald Coast at Rosemary Beach.
Check Titans Online all next week for daily photo and video updates from the Pearl.

I think we need to send a couple of American pro cheerleaders to Australia. Sort of a cheerleader exchange program. C’mon, who’s up for it?
