The Minnesota Vikings Cheerleaders sure know how to do it up big. Not only are their final auditions open to the public, but so are the semis. This year’s semi final audition took place last night in Minneapolis. The 54 semifinalists competed in on stage interview, swimsuit walk, and dance solos. At the end of the evening, the ladies with the top ten highest scores were announced. Later this year, those ten ladies will compete for the cover of the annual MVC swimsuit calendar.

Congrats to the top ten: Kristin, Elyssa, Kayla, Blair, Brooklyn, Kristy, Kaylee, Lauryn, Taylor and Rachel!

LA KISS is the new Arena Football League team here in Southern California. I was privileged to cover the newly minted KISS Girls at their home game last night. It was only their second game ever, so it was all very exciting.

LA KISS plays their home games at the Honda Center in Anaheim, which is a little bit south of Disneyland.

I picked up my credentials and I was legit! Time to head inside.

This is where it all happens

I caught up with the dancers as they were rehearsing on the field.

The dancers rehearsed all three numbers they’d perform during the game.

Caroline

Jules

Lizzy

Xandi

After rehearsal, we all headed to the dressing room to get ready for game time.

Niaps hanging out in the dressing room. Niaps’ name is “Spain” backwards. No really. She has a brother named London Paris. (Or maybe it’s Paris London…?)

Sheldon showed me their uniforms. I was particularly interested in this top, since I’d seen a photo of it from last week’s game. Epaulettes? Really?

A closer look. Leather, crystals, spikes, and fringe!

The pants lace all the way down to the ankle, with these shoelace things that are so long, they have to wrap them around their ankles a few times. The belt is pretty badasss, but it’s noisy. Vanessa said it sounds like reindeer.

She’s SO right. When the whole team is walking down the hall. wearing those belts, it sounds like Santa is coming to town.

Several of the girls had to get ready early to go out and greet fans on the concourse.

Lynhthy (pronounced “Linty”)

Off we went, upstairs, to hand out this photo of the dance team:

The ladies split up to go to the various gates

Front row: Vanessa and Jules

When they opened the doors, the fans were excited to see the dancers.

Heck, the employees were glad to see the dancers too

After handing out posters, it was time to go back downstairs and meet up with the rest of the dancers.

(FYI: Natllely’s name is pronounced Nazhelly)

Blowing off some steam

Aha! Found the cage dancers!

I’m so jealous. I want to go up in the cage.

Pregame!

Lizzy and Natllelly at the coin toss.

This was the one time I managed to catch LeighAnn when she wasn’t moving around. LeighAnn is the team’s choreographer and performs with them on occasion. She’s also part captain/part director and it’s her responsibility to make sure the dancers are where they need to be, when they need to be there. She did a lot of running around.

Back: Jenna, Natllely, Jules, Xandi, Caroline, Niaps, Sheldon
Front: Lynhthy, Lizzy, LeighAnn, and Vanessa

Lots of waiting backstage.

Show time!

After the game was over (sadly, LA KISS lost), the dancers and some of the players headed out to the concourse to sign autographs

And that’s a wrap. Time sure flies when you’re having fun!

This year’s team, which was announced last night, is evenly split between veterans and rookies, and includes two Angelas, two Angelicas/Anjelicas, two Bridgets, and a set of twins. Click here for photos from finals, and click here for video!

[2014 Charger Girls]

Charger Girl Final Auditions take place in downtown San Diego tonight. But before that, check out the photo gallery and video on Chargers.com.

Vikings.com has fantastic coverage of this year’s cheerleader auditions. Click here for video and lots of photos! As always, with The Line Up in their back yard, this is the best dressed group of candidates in the league. One dancer missed the memo about wearing team colors. If that was on purpose, it was kind of brilliant, actually.

My9 New Jersey

Brooklyn, New York (My9NJ) – While many fans are focused on the Brooklyn Nets hard efforts during their playoff season, another team is gearing up to perform their hearts out for future home games. At the Barclay’s Center, home of the Brooklyn Nets, the Nets Dance team is putting everything on the table and perfecting their dance routines to put on an unforgettable performance throughout the teams basketball season. Two team members, who are native to New Jersey, sat down and talked about their efforts to engage the crowd every time the Nets play at the Barclays.

Amanda Robinson and Alexa Kobylarz, born in Piscataway and Brick, New Jersey respectfully, both come from ballet backgrounds and do everything they can in order to bring-it on the dance floor.

“This season, I have to say it’s been amazing. We’ve really come out the gate strong and it’s been so exciting,” Kobylarz said.

The girls perform at almost every home game and they have an unlikely fan in hip-hop mogul Jay-Z. The New Jersey natives talked about their celebrity supporter and how they even got to perform for him and wife Beyonce!

“We’ve seen him sitting courtside him with Beyoncé, she’s fabulous sitting there, and you know, they’re here to see the entertainment, so it’s a really an awesome experience to perform in front of them,” Robinson said.

With this dance team being only a part time endeavor, it’s wonderful to acknowledge the dedication these women have to perform for others while also doing the thing that they love. If you want to catch the Brooklyn Nets Dance team perform their awesome routines, you can see them at the next Barclay Center home game against Detroit.
