Ultimate Cheerleaders

The Kings have selected their dance team, and here they are, 18 of Nor Cal’s finest dancers! The team has posted photo galleries for each member, and I encourage you to click here and check it out. They did a beautiful black and white series that really show off the grace and athleticism of these dancers.

A few of my favorites…

Here’s the 2013-14 edition of the Dallas Stars, proudly wearing their new uniforms, which showcase the team’s new logo and colors goodbye gold, hello Victory Green. Hopefully individual bios will soon follow.

Remember these two?

Earlier this year, former Charger Girls Lauren and Giselle teamed up (again) to open their own Barre 3 studio in San Diego. For the uninformed (which included myself until about fifteen minutes ago), Barre 3 is a new approach to fitness that is sort of a hybrid between pilates and the classical ballet exercises done at the barre in dance studios all across the country. (You remember. Plié…and up..down, up, down, up, and turn…) The point is it help you develop that long, lean look of a dancer. Without having to actually be good at dancing. I think it’s also a bit like yoga in that you have to hold some poses until your arms and legs are shaking, and you start wishing you’d parked closer to the entrance because you may have to crawl to your car when this is over. On the up side, this isn’t one of those things where you have to actually be able to dance. Klutzes can do this. Dudes can do this. Every single member of The Rhythmless Nation can do this.

Giselle and Lauren opened their studio (the first one in California!) back in April, and the reviews have been oustanding.

Lauren sent over a few photos from a recent shoot, and I must say, opening your own place like this is a pretty clever way to stay in shape when you no longer have long hours of rehearsal and brutally long game days to keep you in top condition. And then – BONUS! – you can model for your own ads. (I’m all about the savings!)

Not quite six months into it, and it looks like these two have a success on their hands. There’s nothing but good reviews on Yelp, and maybe some of you will add a few more. Townies, you should definitely check this out:

Now the ladies show us how its done:

Anyone else getting a little Ashley Judd vibe here? No? Just me.

I kinda feel like I’m better off not knowing what the straps are for…

Tee hee, I see Giselle’s tushie. (Yes, I’m twelve, ok?)

Sidebar: Aspiring Charger Girls, you need to get over there. I’m not saying you should pump these two for audition tips, but hey, they’re pretty much sitting ducks over there, and they’re way too nice to tell you to shove it. I mean, you have to take class. They’re trying to run a business, ok? Don’t be all tacky and charge in there with a bunch of questions, like you have no home training. And don’t expect some kind of Charger Girl seminar (although, Lauren and Giselle, you might consider that, since you have space to do it. I’m just saying). However, the occasional question or two won’t get you thrown out.

The Orlando Magic Dancers have wrapped up shooting their latest swimsuit calendar, and there is tons of coverage on their website! Click here to check out the extensive photo gallery, and click here for video.

Wow oh wow. Such a great peek into the history of this team, served up with a heaping dose of early 80s fashion. The kerchiefs. The legwarmers. Teri Hatcher.

If I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes, I could’ve never imagined a pro cheerleader with a mullet. If you had suggested such a thing even ten minutes ago, I would’ve told you to shut your mouth. And yet…there she is. Awesome.

Cheerleaders to Debut Newly-Designed Vera Wang Signature Pieces
Philadelphia Eagles
September 12, 2013

In 2003, the Philadelphia Eagles Cheerleaders introduced haute couture into NFL Cheerleading when they unveiled their Vera Wang uniforms during the inaugural game at Lincoln Financial Field, becoming the first squad to be outfitted by an internationally famed designer. This year, the cheerleaders will be debuting newly-designed Vera Wang signature pieces, beginning with the home opener on Sunday, September 15.

The new signature pieces will be unveiled throughout the course of the season and encapsulate the Eagles brand with the incorporation of logo motifs and more midnight green into the modern, sleek designs. The squad will be dressed entirely in Vera Wang, as the designer also custom made a black sparkle sneaker for the squad to wear with their uniforms for a finishing touch to the contemporary and distinctive look.

Christina Weiss Lurie, President Eagles Youth Partnership and Eagles Social Responsibility, played an integral role in all aspects of the uniform designs. She expressed, “Vera beautifully achieved our vision for the signature pieces with a fashion forward and sporty look that represents our style. We feel the uniforms are ideal for the cutting-edge image of the cheerleaders – chic while displaying athleticism.”

Vera Wang added, “It was an honor to create the uniform design that has now become synonymous with the Philadelphia Eagles Cheerleaders. I always embrace the opportunity to work on extensions of my original creations and enjoyed designing new signature pieces for the beautiful and talented cheerleaders to wear this year.”

As part of the 2013 debut, the Eagles Cheerleaders were involved in New York Fashion Week which included appearing at the celebrity-studded GBK Styling Lounge. GBK Productions, known for their luxury gifting lounges at the Academy Awards, Golden Globes, Cannes Film Festival, EMMYS, and ESPYS, invited the cheerleaders to participate in photo-ops with fellow celebrities and fashion industry professionals.

By way of comparison, here are the old uniforms:

The Charlotte Bobcats dance team recently completed the photo shoot for their annual calendar. It looks like they’re all over the place, so I’m not entirely clear on the concept behind the calendar. I’m sure it will all become clear when it comes out, but it looks like at least part of it was shot in and around the arena where the basketball team plays their home games. Lots of photos from the shoot have been posted on the Bobcats site, including a couple where the ladies are wearing chefs’ hats for no clear reason. Whatever. Check it out!
