Halloween Cheerleader Photos from Around the Internet

It’s a wonderful time of the year with the rare confluence of professional football, baseball, basketball and hockey.  One thing all these sports have in common is…cheerleaders.  And Halloween brings out the best in terms of fun and creativity.  So let’s take a look at what our beloved cheerleaders and dancers are doing to celebrate this venerable and festive holiday.

Isn’t social media wonderful?

Washington Capitals Red Rockers Auditions

When/where are the auditions?

The 2017-18 Red Rockers Auditions will take place at Verizon Center and the adjacent VIDA Fitness.  Day 1 of auditions is on Sunday, July 30.  Selected finalists will participate in a group practice at VIDA Fitness during the first week of August.  Those finalists will then return to Verizon Center on Saturday, August 5th, for formal interviews at a TBD time and a subsequent group performance..

What do I need to bring/wear to auditions?
Day 1: Resume and headshot if you did not previously register. Please wear form-fitting pants, a form-fitting top (crop-top—top that exposes the midriff—works as well), and athletic sneakers.

Practices: Finalists will be asked to take part in mandatory dance practices, where they will learn the final routine.

Finals: Finalists will return for an interview and further physical activity, so please wear business attire and BRING form-fitting gear, similar to Day 1.

How should I wear my hair and makeup?

The Red Rockers wear full hair and makeup on game days and to external events. Hair is to be completely down, and full stage makeup is required with red lipstick. Nails are to be clean and either clear/neutral color, or French manicure. Body jewelry is strictly prohibited (this includes belly rings, tongue rings, nose rings, eye brow rings, etc.) Wedding/Engagement rings are acceptable. Tattoos must be completely covered, either by clothing or by application of makeup.

Do I need to bring skates or any other equipment?

No, skating experience is not required, nor will it be tested during auditions. However, the ability to skate is a plus and will be noted in the interview process.

Do I need to have dance/cheer experience to audition?

While dance and cheer experience is not required, applicants will be graded on their enthusiasm and their ability to learn and perform simple routines.

Are the Red Rockers paid?

Members of the Red Rockers will be paid for their work at games and outside events. The squad is a part-time position, and so members may hold full-time jobs and/or attend college while on the team.

Are there any height or weight requirements?

There are no specific height or weight requirements. However, uniforms consist of form-fitting tops and pants, and so an athletic appearance is necessary.

How can I sign up for auditions?

Registration is now open, washingtoncaps.com/redrockers

Prohibited Attire for Auditions Participants:

·         Blue jeans or denim

·         Baggy T-shirts or pants

·         Boots, hard-soled shoes, or other non-athletic shoes

The Washington Capitals and the Washington Wizards had the same ownership so it’s no surprise that our good friend Derric Whitfield who’s been running the Wizards Girls will now be even busier as he is now also the choreographer for the Red Rockers.

Congratulations to the 2013-14 Red Rockers who were selected Sunday afternoon after a long weekend of auditions. Good friend of UC and Wizards Dance Team Manager, Derric Whitfield was on hand to teach the girls the choreography. (The Wizards and Caps have the same ownership and both play in the Verizon Center.)

Politically Connected Cheerleaders – Updated

I can always rely on our loyal readers to help me out. Here’s our newly updated list:

Kristie was a Washington Wizards Girl and is a current Washington Capitals Red Rocker. She’s worked on Capitol Hill for six years. And in bit of Cheerleader serendipity, Congressman Bob Brady (see below) is her boss.

Atlanta Falcons Cheerleader Natalie is the deputy press secretary for the Georgia General Assembly. She previously served as communications specialist for Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue in Atlanta. During her three-year tenure in Governor Perdue’s office, Natalie acted as spokesperson for First Lady Mary Perdue and assistant to the Governor’s Press Secretary, serving as a liaison between the Governor’s office and national and international media.

Virginia First Lady Maureen McDonnell is a former Washington Redskins Cheerleader.

Debra Brady (seen here with husband and Congressman Bob Brady) cheered for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Jeanette Dousdebes-Rubio (seen here with husband and Senator-elect Marco Rubio) is a former Miami Dolphins Cheerleader.

Dr. Jennifer Horrell, the wife of three-term Missouri State Representative and 2008 Democratic nominee for Lt. Governor Dr. Sam Page, cheered for the Kansas City Chiefs.

In the back of my mind I remember an Atlanta Falcons Cheerleader who ran for the Georgia General Assembly, but can’t seem to locate any record of this. Any help tracking this down, or other suggestions to the list are welcome.
