1st Round of Prowler Tryouts Bring out the Best
From OrlandoPredators.com
It was heartbreaking for some and exciting for others. Nonetheless, it was a long day full of action for all who came out. Saturday afternoon marked the beginning of a journey; a journey to find the 2010 Orlando Predator Prowlers. Over 40 women came in Saturday afternoon with dreams of being called a Prowler. They came from all over, each with a story and a dream. There were salsa champions and stuntwomen. They were mothers and there were ladies fresh out of high school. We even had a pearl diver from Sea World there trying out. Each of them had one end goal in mind: to make it to the finals. Each round began with the participants learning a routine that they performed in front of the judges. After the second round, the first set of cuts was made.
Once the cuts were finalized, the remaining contestants had to learn one more routine and perform that in front of the judges. Some had to dance two and even three times in that final period for the judges. Then, the waiting game began again. It was a nervous time for all involved. Some dancers stayed in the room while others sat outside to wait. When everyone was reassembled, the finalists were announced. To say it was a very emotional time would be a vast understatement. The day began at New Dimensions Dance Academy in Oviedo with gray clouds, cold conditions, and ladies full of optimism. It ended in a mixture of bittersweet darkness and sanguine brightness.
Now, we are drawing closer to the finals on Saturday night which should be full of butterflies, anxiousness, and emotion. It’s hard to put into words what these talented women will be feeling come Saturday evening. Think about how Jamie McMurray felt after he won the Daytona 500. When he spoke to the reporter moments after he achieved the biggest moment of his professional life, he wept openly. You saw how much it meant to him to be in victory lane at that point in time. Think back to a time when you achieved something you invested so much sweat, time, and tears in. A select few will experience that feeling on Saturday night at Antigua.
When the spotlight shines its brightest, who will step up and earn their place as a Predator Prowler? Only time will tell…
