Road Trip San Francisco: The 49ers Gold Rush Cheerleaders

Late Fall is vacation time for me and one of the places that I love to visit is San Francisco.  Arguably one of the most beautiful cities in the world, it is even more spectacular when the weather is nice.  And it was very nice this past weekend.

With temperatures in the high 70’s and beautiful clear blue skies, San Francisco was the place to be last Sunday…and I am not speaking only of the weather.  The St. Louis Rams were in town to play the 49ers in a clash of NFC West powers.  In a game that that ebbed and flowed, the 49ers and Rams fought each other to a tie at the end of regulation.  In overtime, a Joe Nedney field goal sealed the victory for the 49ers.

And while the game was good, the San Francisco Gold Rush cheerleaders were spectacular.

Candlestick Park is not in one of the more scenic parts of San Francisco, but as a football venue it has its own unique charm.  The patina of rust and grit make for a nice blue collar atmosphere.  Football is a blue collar sport and that was one of the criticisms I had of the Rams back in their Anaheim days…that Rams football became too much of a wine and cheese type crowd event.  So, it was refreshing to come back to the Bay Area and see some blue collar, rough and tumble football.  And the fans…they look like they’d just been released from a methadone clinic, but they were hard core fans and that’s good enough for me.

I arrived early to meet up with Rex, our Bay Area correspondent.  We were there to photograph a performance of the Gold Rush in the Bud Light Goldmine.  That’s one of the great things about going to a game a Candlestick Park.

After their performance, the Gold Rush signed autographs and posed for photographs with the fans.  I took the opportunity to take a few posed photographs for our readers.

Rex informed me that it was Junior Gold Rush day, so I made my way to my seats to await the Gold Rush’s pregame performance.

The three oldest stadiums in the NFL are located in California…San Francisco, Oakland and San Diego.  They were built during the multi-use era of stadiums and were home to both baseball and football teams.  Candlestick Park was the long time home of the San Francisco Giants before they moved into a new downtown ballpark in 2003.  The stadium still retains the look and feel of a baseball stadium and the dugouts remain to this day.  And that’s a good thing because the Gold Rush perform on top of the dugouts during kickoffs after touchdowns scored.

Now some of you may be familiar with my Charger Girl reports where I recognize a cheerleader of the day. It is an honor given to the cheerleader who left the most memorable impression and it is a tradition that will continue here.  This week’s Cheerleader of the Day is Morgan, a first year Gold Rush cheerleader.

I am not as familiar with the Gold Rush as I am with the Charger Girls, so if I misidentify some of them, my apologies in advance.  So, let’s begin our coverage of the 49ers Gold Rush with a few photos of Aleena, Alexis, Carmen, Christine, Elizabeth, and Erica W.

I always enjoy coming up to San Francisco.  It’s a beautiful city.  It’s a fun place to visit.  There are lots of things to see and do.  And San Francisco has the 49ers Gold Rush cheerleaders.  If you are a football fan, they are one of the reasons to take a road trip to the Bay Area.
