Since winning the Super Bowl the Seattle Seahawks have not slowed down and it doesn’t appear they will any time soon.

The same goes for the Sea Gals.

The Sea Gals held tryouts starting at the end of April and going through the beginning of May.

There were three parts to the auditions. In the first round, anyone could perform a freestyle routine to music provided.

If you were selected to move on, you entered the semi finals where those trying out to be a Sea Gal would perform a routine that they had been taught. And if you made it to the final stage, you performed a final routine and were interviewed.

All those interested in joining the team must tryout, including those who were part of the Sea Gals last year.

The Sea Gals are made up of 32 women and joining Sumner High School’s graduate Sea Gal Christian, who is returning for her second season, is Sea Gal Kylie.

Kylie graduated from Bonney Lake High School in 2012.

Kylie joins the Sea Gals with 13 years of dancing experience.

While she played sports like soccer and basketball when she was younger, she did not continue to play once in high school.

“I always knew I wanted to dance and cheer,” Kylie said.

While at Bonney Lake High School, she spent three years on the cheer squad.

Entering tryouts this year, Kylie knew what to expect because she had made it to the finals last season.

The only difference this year is her number was called.

She said she was in shock when she heard her number announced. Kylie had to look down at her number to make sure she was mistaken, she said.

“My goal was to come back looking better than I did in 2013, both physically and technically,” she said. “I’m happy it all paid off.”

Kylie said she felt relieved and accomplished when she was chosen to join the Sea Gals this coming season.

Like many Sea Gals, Kylie has been a Seahawk’s fan since she was young.

And during the 1980s, Kylie’s mom danced with the Sea Gals for nine seasons.

Kylie said starting when she was about 10 years old, people would ask her if she would take after her mom and cheer with the Sea Gals.

“I did not become serious about trying out for the Sea Gals until I was a senior in high school,” Kylie said. “I knew I loved to perform and that there wasn’t a better place to do so than in front of 60,000 people.”

Apart from dancing and cheering along side the 12th man, Kylie said she most looks forward to new experiences and friendships she will make while being a Sea Gal.

The Sea Gals waste no time, they have already started practicing and have shot the photos for the annual Sea Gals calendar. The calendar will be released in August.

In the short time Kylie has been on team, she said her “journey has been amazing!”

As a rookie, Kylie said she tries to make the best of every event by learning from the veteran Sea Gals.

Aside from being a Sea Gal, Kylie is finishing her time at Pierce College and hopes to be accepted to a university where she hopes to study broadcast journalism.

She also works as an all star cheerleading coach for the Roach Elite All Stars in Sumner.

“I get to watch kids grow and improve every day, it’s very rewarding,” Kylie said.
