UFL Names Billie O’Hara Cheer and Dance Development Director
The United Football League has announced that prominent Central Florida dance instructor and choreographer Billie O’Hara has been named to the dual role of UFL Cheer and Dance Development Director and Director of the Florida Tusker Cheerleaders.
In her new post, O’Hara will oversee the development of Dance/Cheer Teams for all United Football League teams in 2010, including the hiring of individual dance team directors, establishment of a league dance team procedure manual, uniform design, budgets and other administrative duties.
In addition, O’Hara will be directly responsible for the creation and development of the Florida Tusker Cheerleaders. In that capacity, O’Hara will handle all aspects of the Tusker Dance Team, including organizing and conducting auditions, final team selection, serving as team choreographer, and overseeing practice and game presentations.
“The hiring of Billie O’Hara is just another example of the UFL’s total commitment to bringing a quality entertainment experience to our football fans,” COO William Peterson said. “Billie’s experience as a performer, instructor and teacher made her the ideal candidate to not only direct the Florida Tuskers dance team, but to create an image and vision for all UFL dance teams.”
A former Orlando Magic Dancer, O’Hara has more than 20 years of experience in dance as a performer, instructor and director. A native of Jacksonville, Fla., O’Hara began her formal dance training in 1989. She attended several prestigious dance schools, including the Tremaine Dance Center in Hollywood, Calif. and Douglas Anderson School of the Performing Arts, where she was accepted into the All American College Program at Walt Disney World.
In addition to dancing for the Orlando Magic for four years, she also danced professionally for the Orlando Predators (Arena Football League). She served as a back-up dancer and choreographer for former Backstreet Boys member Phoenix Stone. O’Hara has served on the faculty of the Dance Conservatory of Orlando and Academy of Performing Arts.
“My vision is the creation of unique and individual dance squads for each UFL city but to build each team within consistent parameters,” O’Hara said. “Overall, each UFL dance/cheer team will be athletic, wholesome, and entertaining ambassadors for their teams. They also serve as role models within their cities through community involvement and charitable work. Our dancers will be an asset to both our teams and the communities they represent.”
O’Hara is married to former professional football player, actor and current Orlando Predators head coach Pat O’Hara. The couple resides in Orlando with sons Tyler and Trace.
