VERO BEACH — Velde Ford manager Wayne Zwick was expecting a good start to the work week — and that was before several cheerleaders showed up on Monday.
Three Dolphins cheerleaders greeted customers, autographed team photos and posed for pictures at Velde Ford as part of a sponsorship agreement between the Miami Dolphins and the South Florida Ford Dealers Association.
“We’ve already had a lot of phone calls asking about what’s going on,” Zwick said.
For rookie cheerleader Brianne Herndon of Fort Pierce and second-year veterans Andrea Simeoni of Davie and Samantha Ruiz of Miami appearances like the one at Velde Ford are a big part of their duties as a Miami Dolphins cheerleader.
“This is my third Ford event,” said Herndon, who graduated from John Carroll High School in 2009. “I went to dealerships in Northlake and Lake Park. It’s appearances like this along with our calendar, which was just unveiled and working with charities that are the best things about being a Miami Dolphins cheerleader.”
Plenty of Dolphins fans came in to meet the cheerleaders, as Samantha Snider and Coree Fansler, both of Vero Beach, were among the first to arrive.
“I love them,” Snider said. “They are beautiful and its awesome there is one from so close by in Fort Pierce. They are way more than pretty faces. John Carroll, where Brianne went to school, is a great school and she should be very proud.”
Fansler, a Dolphins season ticket holder in the past, came in for an autographed photo.
“We have the Dolphins cheerleader’ team photos dating back to the 90s,” Fansler explained. “I think the 1995-96 team photo was our first one.”
After hearing about the cheerleaders from a friend, Robert Sovine, of Vero Beach, came in on his lunch break.
“I was working beach side, all the way over toward Windsor,” Sovine said. “I’m a big Dolphins fan and if they can keep the quarterback going and get the offence going, you know, we will see what happens.”
According to Zwick, there will be other promotions with the Miami Dolphins as the season goes on.
