Chargers Fizzle, Charger Girls Sizzle

The Chargers and the New England Patriots have a rivalry of sorts…if you consider consistently losing to the Patriots a rivalry.  This week was no different.  The Chargers fumbled, bumbled and stumbled their way to a loss and perhaps a losing season.

It wasn’t that the Patriots were moving the ball consistently against the Chargers…they weren’t.  It wasn’t that the Chargers offense couldn’t move the ball against the Patriots…they did.  But when the game mattered the most, the Chargers played sloppy and turned the ball over while the Patriots executed.  The Patriots took advantage of four first half turnovers to take a 10 point lead at half time.  That lead was pushed to a 20 – 3 advantage in the fourth quarter before a furious Charger comeback effort fell short.  Final score, Clam Chowders – 23, Chargers – 20.

If the Chargers don’t find some answers soon, things will start to look bleak.  Well, at least the Charger Girls sizzled in their pink breast cancer awareness tops.

Let’s begin this week’s coverage with the Line Captains: Tiffany, Lauren O., Katie, and Ashlie.  Line Captain Giselle was injured and not in uniform today, so second year veteran Lauren O. took over for her.

When I was in the Bud Light Power Party, I overheard part of a conversation Katie was having with two Patriot fans, who also happened to be Boston Celtic fans.  I had to point out to them that she was also a former Laker Girl and to even the most die hard New England fan, that was impressive.  It’s all good in the Power Party.

This week’s Charger Girl of the Day hails from Highland, California and was an Inland Empire 66ers Spirit Girl…introducing the statuesque Brianna.

Now I should correct an oversight on my part.  For the past several articles, I have referred to Culture as a rookie Charger Girl.  Last week, while perusing her online bio, I discovered this is not her first stint as a Charger Girl. She is in fact a second year Charger Girl.  So, I tracked her down in the Bud Light Power Party and asked her when she was last on the squad and she informed me that she was a Charger Girl back in 1999.

She told me that she regularly attended the Charger Girl reunions and on a kind of dare, she tried out again this year and made the squad.  Wow!  That’s truly an amazing story, making the squad again after 10 years.

So, Culture and I have one thing in common…I became a Chargers season ticket holder in 1999, her rookie season.

And while we are on the topic of hair…I thought I would include this photo of Tom Brady, New England’s own California boy.  Hey Tom, you may be married to a super model, but dude, cut your hair.

Well, there is noting really I can say to explain what happened.  An NFL game is played for four quarters, not one  The Chargers didn’t come to play and the Patriots did.  That seems to be the order of the day, the Chargers just can’t seem to execute and play with the level of intensity that a playoff caliber team demands.  So, once again the Chargers fizzled, but at least the Charger Girls sizzled.  And that’s some consolation.
