It was another big divisional game this week with the Pittsburgh Steelers traveling to Ohio to battle the Cincinnati Bengals. Its a tight race in the AFC North, so this game would go a long a way for the victor. It was a rather close game that wasn’t decided until the last minute when the Steelers Antonio Brown caught a pass from Ben Roethlisberger and raced 31 yards for the winning touchdown. The final score: Steelers – 28, Bengals – 21.

The Washington Redskins hosted the Carolina Panthers in Week 6 of the regular season and in a tightly contested battle the underdog Redskins bested the visitors on the basis of two critical plays by their defense. Criticized earlier in the week by his teams, Redskins corner back Josh Norman provided the spark with an interception and a forced fumble. Alex Smith passed for 167 yards and two touchdowns and Adrian Peterson rushed for 97 yards on 17 carries to pace the Redskins to victory. Final score: Redskins – 23, Panthers – 17.

In Week 5, the Denver Broncos and the New York Jets clashed in a battle of rebuilding teams. Big plays by the New York Jets would be the story line on this day. Isaiah Crowell rushed for 219 yards, including one run for 77 yards that went for a touchdown. Rookie QB Sam Darnold threw two TD passes to Robby Anderson, including a 76-yarder, and one more to Terrell Pryor. On this day, the Jets were the superior team. Final Score: Jets – 34, Broncos – 16.

Monday Night Football is a big deal. It’s the biggest stage during the regular season and it’s the place to make a statement, so you’d better come ready to play because millions of people are going to be watching. Last Monday, the New Orleans Saints came to play and thoroughly outclassed the visiting Washington Redskins. Saints QB Drew Brees threw for 363 yards and three TDs on the way to setting an NFL record for all time passing yards. Melvin Ingram, fresh off of his four game suspension, rushed for two touchdown and reminded people that the Saints have one of the most dynamic offenses in the NFL.
In contrast, the Redskins looked listless and incapable of stopping the Saints offense. Alex Smith regressed to what people have come to expect from him, a dink and dunk game manager. Last year’s deep ball throwing prowess has proven to be a fluke year for Smith and he has done little to make people forget Kirk Cousins, who has generally thrived in his new surroundings in Minnesota.
Bottom line…the Redskins are not a better team with Smith at the helm and as for the Saints…well they appear to be the same old high scoring, play off contending Saints. Final Score, Saints – 43, Redskins – 19.
