Timberwolves Dancers Open Call Auditions

The Timberwolves Dancers feature the NBA’s elite blend of dance styles, performance and involvement in the community and we would like to invite professional and aspiring dancers to an Open Audition to join our team!

Dancers will compete in an Open Audition process and will be judged on their dance ability, crowd appeal, and showmanship. Those selected as dancer finalists will move on to a 10-day boot camp which includes interviews, rehearsals, and fitness training. The audition will conclude with our finalists performing in the NBA’s premiere Dance Selection Show.

REQUIRED DANCE ATTIRE

2-piece attire (crop top & shorts/briefs) preferred to help regulate and curtail any unfair advantage based on an individuals choice of clothing. Jazz/dance shoes or athletic shoes (non-marking soles) are also mandatory. Dancers should wear performance hair and make-up that complements their individual style. Wearing hair down is recommended.

WHAT TO BRING

All dancers are recommended to bring a professional headshot and resume – both items will be submitted at the registration/check in table. It is also suggested to bring water, snacks, jazz shoes and athletic shoes, warm-up/sweat suit, make-up, hair spray, mirror and a towel.

FINALISTS

Finalists will be selected on Saturday July 8th, 2017 and MUST be available for the following:

• Photo/Video shoot TBD.
• Boot Camp and Selection Show: Dancers will have a professional interview, learn additional choreography during the boot camp. All choreography will be performed/showcased at the final selection show.
• *Location, time & details will be announced to our Finalists on a date to be determined.

REQUIREMENTS

All applicants must be at least 18 years of age by Saturday, July 8th, 2017.

• Dance experience or professional dance training is recommended (Gymnastics skills are also a plus)
• Schedule flexibility for rehearsals, games and appearances.
• Must be able to attend rehearsals twice a week starting mid-August 2017.
• Must represent the team on international trips if asked

TOTAL commitment is required to be a member of the Minnesota Timberwolves Dancers

Audition Dates:

JULY 8, SATURDAY

• Preliminary Round and first cut
• Registration opens at 8:00am, auditions start promptly at 9:00am

JULY 10, MONDAY

• Semi-finalists will learn additional choreography at West High School from 6:00-9:00pm.
• Semi-finalists will also be required to submit a 2 minute video with one minute to introduce themselves and one minute of original choreography. Videos are due by midnight July 10th.

JULY 11, TUESDAY

• 30 finalists will be selected and announced by 4:00pm
• Open practice at West High School from 6:00 – 8:00pm

JULY 13, THURSDAY

• Individual interviews will be scheduled and conducted at West High School starting at 8:00am
• Final round will begin at 1:00pm
• Final members of the 2017-18 America First Jazz Dancers will be announced by 5:00pm.

Requirements:

• Must be 18 years of age by July 8th, 2017 NO EXCEPTIONS!
• High school graduate
• Bring a 5 X 7 full-body photo (this will not be returned to you and must be of YOU ONLY). Professional photos recommended. We do not require a photo for preregistration.
• Athletic physique
• Physically fit

Attire:

• Half-tops or sports bras
• Non-marking dance or athletic shoes
• Performance-ready hair and make-up
• Attire for interviews is business professional dress

First Round Audition Day 1- July 8th, 2017- Registration begins at 8:30am

• The first round will consist of 2 eliminations that will include across-the-floor technique, jazz choreography, and hip hop choreography.
• The first round is closed to all public.
• Audition Day 1 will close at 4:30pm.

Second Round Audition Day 2- July 9th, 2017- Arrival Time 9:00am

• The second round will consist of 1 elimination that will include the jazz and hip hop choreography from the previous day, and a freestyle/ solo audition. The freestyle/ solo audition will consist of 6-8 eight counts of your own freestyle/ and or choreography highlighting your strengths. Music will be provided.
• A maximum of 30 finalists will advance past this day.
• Audition Day 2 will close at 4:45pm.
