I was at Thursday’s (12/15) Lightning overtime win versus their Stanley Cup foes, the Calgary Flames. In between play I seized the opportunity to snap off a few photos of the Lightning Girls. Hopefully, after the Bucs season, we can obtain access to re-visit the Tampa Times Forum (new name) for a full photo-shoot of these energetic young ladies as they hop all over the arena mingling with the fans. Check back with us.
The latest Bucs spotlight is on three fan-favorite, impressive, veteran cheerleaders who are each in their 5th year of performing on the TBBC squad. Milly Figuereo, Kelli Jones and Maria Cartagena.
Milly Figuereo:
Milly graduated from the University of Tampa and is employed as an office manager for a commodities broker. Milly also does extensive TV work as an advertising spokesperson for Florida businesses. Milly’s favorite charity is “The Centre” –an organization that serves over 3,000 women, girls, and families each year.
Kelli Jones:
Kelli has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Utah and is employed as a Promotions Producer for a local Tampa TV station. Kelli’s favorite charity is “Tampa Bay Watch, Inc”–stewardship program dedicated to protection of wetland environments of the Tampa Bay Estuary.
Maria Cartagena:
Maria is a student at USF pursuing her Marketing Degree and also works full time as an Account Manager in Tampa. Maria hopes some day to start her own business as a Event Planner. Maria’s charity work this year is dedicated to “A Kids Place”, an organization that houses abused at risk children.

Maria states: "Country Music is probably the only type of music I could listen to all day". Maria states: "Country Music is probably the only type of music I could listen to all day".

Sun Life stadium was invaded on Sunday as thousands of Florida Gator fans arrived to root on Tim Tebow following his promotion to starting quarterback for the Denver Broncos. Despite non-stop cheer dancing under the blazing sun by the Miami Cheerleaders, the Dolphins did manage to lose a sixth consecutive game. At least they gave me an overtime period to shutter a few extra photos.
