Weekend At Bernie’s – Part Deux
This past weekend, I spent some quality time over at Bernie’s. That would be Bernie Lilavois and the Ontario Fury of the MASL. Indoor soccer is fast and furious, kind of like what Arena Football is to NFL football. The action is non stop, the scoring is sudden, and this weekend…physical. I went to see some indoor soccer and a hockey game broke out.
Yes, there is boarding in the MASL and like hockey, when you slam a player into the boards, that’s a penalty. And yes, there are goons in the MASL and like hockey, when you cheap shot a guy, there will be retaliation.
I saw a lot of hockey type action in the two Fury games that I attended…and as a spectator…it was a lot of fun to see. Fast break action and thuggish play to boot! Well, I guess that’s one way to try to stop the Fury…or not…both opponents, the Turlock Express and the Las Vegas Legends, lost to the home team.
But the real reason for my return visit was the Ladies of Ontario Fury.
Lynae de Leon, the director of the dance team, let me know that the Ladies of Ontario Fury were going to be performing a special Cowgirl themed dance on Sunday, so I was eager to forgo my NFL Championship Game watching to be able to photograph the hottest dance team in the MASL one more time.
So here is a collection of images taken over the course of two days with the lovely Ladies of Ontario Fury.
Pregame Meet and Greet
On Sunday, during a lull in the meet and greet, I was able to take some fun photos of the girls.
I asked Meredith and Kaitlyn to pretend that the Fury scored a goal…this being an hour before game time. Just trying to keep it fresh and to get some interesting images for our readers.
That’s some acting, right there.
So, I asked Kaitlyn to do the “Lord of the Dance” pose for me and she said she had never heard of Lord of the Dance. Never heard of Lord of the Dance? What the? Never heard of one of the biggest, most successful Irish musical dance productions. A show that featured Michael Flatley of Riverdance fame. It was huge back in the 1990’s. HUGE!
Well I demonstrated the move for her. Yeah, come on…you know you did it too. Everyone did the Lord of the Dance move back in the day…it’s like doing the Heisman pose. It’s my signature move when celebrating something important and rubbing it in, like winning this year’s Fantasy Football title (wink! wink!). And this is what she did…
Pathetic.
Here’s the real deal with Michael Flatley himself.
Most amazing live action show, I’ve seen. Gorgeous girls. Amazing music. And Irish step dancing on a huge theatrical stage…but I digress.
I next asked Jacqueline to pose with a calendar…seemed like the right idea.
And here’s Meredith again, this time doing “spirit fingers“.
Soon it was back to the locker room. Game time approached.
Pregame Performance
This is the only dance action that the girls perform in their white, high heeled boots…and I can see why, with all that thick artificial turf beneath their feet, it might be a tad difficult dancing with those spiked heels. But it’s a great look nonetheless.
Player Introductions and National Anthem
Stage Performances
When the game begins, the Ladies of Ontario Fury move up to the concourse area to perform during breaks in the action. The arena’s management have created a sizable stage in the seating area in section 101 for the girls to use.
Field Performances
At halftime and the third quarter break, the girls are the featured entertainment and perform two spirited dances at mid field. On Saturday, they hosted a dance clinic for local school aged children and the performed as a group during the third quarter break.
Special Cowgirl Dance Routine
On Sunday, the Ladies of Ontario Fury performed a special cowgirl themed dance for the fans in attendance…I love the look and I think they should wear this get up instead of the usual second half dance pants outfit.
It was another wonderful weekend of soccer fun. Not only did I get to see some fast, furious, and physical action on the field, I got to photograph some of the most beautiful cheerleaders in pro sports…just another great weekend at Bernie’s.
