Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders Finals
After nearly four months of preparations the Miami Dolphins have selected the women that will represent the organization as the 2011 Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders. The final selection took place on Saturday, May 7 at the Aventura Mall in Aventura, FL, as 42 ladies were chosen by a celebrity panel of nine judges along with votes that were placed online, via text messages and in person by mall patrons.
The all day competition included all 76 finalists from around the country presenting a self choreographed performance as well as taking part in a group performance. The performances concluded an intense week of preparations for the finalists who were chosen just six days earlier from a field of over 400 applicants.
“The auditions challenged these young women to perform at their best, I am proud of all of the candidates that participated,” said Emily Newton, Director of Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders. “The ladies we have selected to the team this year include a strong veteran group, including 4 and 5 year team members, lots of tall new candidates, very talented dancers and all beautiful girls.”
The 2011 Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders comprised of 22 veteran and 20 rookie members include a diverse group of women from seven states (Florida, Alaska, Arkansas, Texas, Missouri, California, New Jersey) and four countries (United States, Cuba, Argentina, Bolivia). This year’s squad also has 17 members that are first generation Americans, hailing from 10 different countries (Cuba, Colombia, Costa-Rica, Brazil, Portugal, Panama, China, Lebanon, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico). Along with the obligations that come with being a member of the Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders the 2011 team include women who are professionals off the field as well, representing a wide range of careers involving the hotel, education, financial, entertainment and sales industries.
