2013-14 Grizz Girls Auditions – June 22
The Memphis Grizzlies will be holding first round auditions for the 2013-14 Grizz Girls dance team presented by Gold Strike Casino Resort on Saturday, June 22 at Mallory Gymnasium at Rhodes College at 9 a.m. Before the best dancers throughout the Mid-South assemble for the audition, the Grizzlies are offering prospective team members the chance to participate in pre-audition clinics and classes that will give them a leg up on the competition.
The two clinics, which will offer prospective team members the opportunity to learn the routine that will be used at the audition from Grizz Girls choreographer Tamara Moore, will be held Thursday, June 13 and Thursday, June 20 at the New Ballet Ensemble Dance Studio (2157 York Avenue) from 7-9 p.m. The cost per clinic is $25 each, or $40 for both sessions. Leading up to the pre-audition clinics, Moore will also hold Girl Play Classes that will teach participants basic techniques and performance tips alongside current members of the Grizz Girls every Tuesday and Thursday. Tuesday classes will be held at Sub Roy Studios (644 S. Highland Ave.) at 7:30 p.m. while Thursday classes will be at New Ballet Ensemble (2157 York Ave.) at 6:30 p.m. Classes are $10 per session and $6 for college students who have a valid student ID. Dancers of all skills levels are invited to take part in the classes, pre-audition clinics and audition. Register for the pre-audition clinics and classes.
“The pre-audition clinics and classes allow prospective team members a chance to see what it takes to be a Grizz Girl,” said Moore. “Through our clinics, classes and auditions, we think that we’ll be able to put together the most entertaining and talented dance team in the entire NBA.”
While participation in the pre-audition clinics and classes is encouraged, all qualified dancers are invited to participate in the June 22 first round audition at Rhodes College (2000 N. Parkway). Once these auditions are completed, the group of finalists will compete for a spot on the 2013-14 Grizz Girls team at the Final Auditions on Sunday, June 30 at the Gold Strike Casino Resort in Tunica, Miss. The Final Audition will begin at 4 p.m. in the Millennium Theatre and the event will be free and open to the public.
