An Emirates Airline stewardess, Belinda Roberts, has given up her flying career to become a cheerleader with the Miami Heat basketball team.
The Australian Business Class flight attendant auditioned alongside hundreds of women from around the world for a chance to become the team’s dancer, and was selected.
“Making the team is a dream come true. I was speaking with my mum the other day and we were saying this has been my dream since I was 15 and it’s amazing how dreams can take time but they do come true,” Roberts told Arabian Business.
“So now I am a part of the Miami heat dancers’ squad. The season will start in October and I’m so excited to perform at the first game,” she added.
The 29-year-old worked initially as a dancer and was working for the Dubai airline for four years while on a break from the sport.
She advises those with dreams to have the courage to follow them and share their “passion with the world.”
“Sit down, close your eyes, and think about what it was you wanted to do when you were younger, when there were no limits, and then try to connect to it. If there is a spark of passion still alive then the first step should be your belief in doing it, [not] how you’re going to do it,” she said.
“The universe works in mysterious ways. Dream big, believe in yourself, and most of all share your passion with the world,” added Roberts.
The Miami Heat team was a National Basketball Association (NBA) champion for two years in a row since 2012.
Cheerleading for the team entails traveling for national and international games as well as taking part is charitable activities.
While the deadline for the latter is unknown, Roberts does not plan on returning to Emirates. She will continue to chase her dancing career, instead.
