It was a tale of two teams…one, a playoff contender and the other a team rebuilding from the bottom up. This past Sunday, the Los Angeles Chargers, the playoff contender, hosted the Arizona Cardinals, the team in rebuild mode, and the outcome was as you would have expected.
The Chargers so thoroughly dominated the Cardinals that they pulled starting quarterback Phillip Rivers early in the fourth quarter as to not pile it on the hapless visitors from Phoenix. It was that lopsided. But before he exited the game, Rivers passed for 259 yards and three touchdowns…he probably could have passed for two more TDs, but what was the point. The Chargers had already lost their stud running back Melvin Gordon to a serious knee injury, so the time was right for Rivers to go. Final score: Chargers – 45, Cardinals – 10.

Another week, another important game. This week, it was a game against their division rival Atlanta Falcons, a one time favorite to win the NFC Championship who has fallen on hard times the past few weeks. Still, the Falcons are a formidable team on paper with a high powered offense and a defense that has lost quite a few key players.
The Saints defense came up big, forcing three Falcons turnovers inside the Saints 20 yard line and they were as effective on offense. Drew Brees passes for 171 yards and four touchdowns and the Saints rushed for over 150 yards to defeat the Falcons, 31 – 17.
With the win, the Saints eliminated the Falcons from NFC South contention. Now let’s turn our attention to this week’s Saintsations photos. Click here to view this week’s gallery.

The Detroit Lions hosted one of the traditional Thanksgiving Day NFL games and this year, they played the division leading Chicago Bears, who were starting journeyman Chase Daniel in place of injured starter Mitchell Trubisky. Daniel acquitted himself well, generally outplaying the more seasoned Matthew Stafford, who had two costly interceptions. The Lions had their chances and were leading 13 – 9 at the end of the third quarter, but yielded two touchdowns to the Bears in the final quarter to lose in disappointing fashion. Final score: Bears 23, Lions – 16.
