AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be 18 or older and have extensive training in hip hop and jazz styles. Tumbling skills are a plus, but not required.
  • Wear two-piece attire and non-marking sneakers. Midriff and legs must be exposed; no tights. Arrive in glamorous, performance-ready hair and makeup.
  • Select dancers from the open call will be invited to attend callback auditions on Sunday, June 24.
  • Finalists must be available the evenings of June 25 and June 26.
  • Special Guest Judges will be in attendance throughout the week including a celebrity choreographer Chuck Smith and Bloc Talent Agency’s Fatima Wilson.

  • Registration: 10:00am –11:00 am (If you pre-register you must arrive no later than 10:30am)

  • Note: Must be at least 18 years old by July 8th, 2018. Please bring a government issued ID, resume and head shot (not returnable).

This audition is closed to the public. Only audition candidates will be admitted.

Pre-registration: Pre-registration will begin on Wednesday, June 20th and will close at 4:00pm on Thursday, July 5th.

TRAINING CAMP: Dancers who make the final cut on July 8th need to be available from Monday, July 9th through Friday, July 13th from approximately 6:00pm – 11:00pm. Finalists will participate in a dancer training camp. The final team will be selected on Friday, July 13th.

REQUIRED ATTIRE: A two-piece form-fitting outfit is mandatory. NO BAGGY CLOTHES. Please wear FULL performance makeup. Dance or athletic shoes with non-marking soles (ABSOLUTELY NO HEELS, NO COMBAT BOOTS, AND NO SHOES WITH MARKING SOLES).

REQUIREMENTS:

  • All dancers must be at least 18 years of age by July 8th.
  • All dancers must bring a government issued ID, a dance or professional resume, and 5″x7″ head shot (not returnable).
  • All dancers must be a high school graduate or equivalent.
  • All dancers must have flexible evening schedules for rehearsals, games, and appearances during the season.
  • All dance team members for 2018-19 season will be required to attend several community/charity appearances.
  • All dance team members must have their own reliable transportation to attend games, rehearsals, and appearances.
  • At least 2 years dance training is recommended.

Audition candidates who attend any of our pre-audition clinics or workshops may be selected to skip the first round of cuts on July 8th. Details will be given during the clinics and workshops. Audition candidates selected to skip the first round will still be required to arrive before registration closes on the day of the audition.

PRE-AUDITION WORKSHOPS:

We will hold audition workshops on Saturday, May 26th; Sunday, July 1st; and Saturday, July 7th. The workshops are intensive sessions that feature a mock audition. Come looking your best! Each participant is asked come with full performance hair and make-up as well as a 2 piece form-fitting audition outfit (sneakers) to get individual feedback from the HEAT Dancer Manager on appearance and performance.

These workshops are optional, but are an excellent want to get an idea of what audition day will be like. Don’t forget to bring a towel, water bottle, work-out sneakers, and small snacks. Also bring a list of questions you may have.

  • Learn choreography at audition speed.
  • A mock up audition with rounds similar to the actual audition.
  • Receive individual feedback on your performance, audition outfit, and appearance from the HEAT Dance Team Manager
  • Receive Audition tips from the HEAT Dancer Manager and current HEAT Dancers

These classes focus on teaching the HEAT Dancers’ style of choreograph and working on technique. They are optional and are designed to familiarize you with the type of choreography that will be taught at auditions.

  • Receive tips on how to physically prepare for auditions from the HEAT Dancer trainer.
  • Learn what it takes to become a Miami HEAT Dancer

  • Final members of the 2018-19 Utah Jazz Dancers will be announced by 5:00pm

What to expect as a member of the Utah Jazz Dance team:

The 2018-19 Utah Jazz Dancers will perform at all Utah Jazz home games. Performances at select Salt Lake City Stars games will be required. You will also be required to perform at special appearances throughout the NBA season & off season. The primary style of dance is hip hop and jazz with higher levels of technique required. Rehearsals will be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, as well as additional nights when necessary. Call time on game days is 3:00pm. THIS IS A MAJOR TIME COMMITMENT!

Audition Dates & Times:

  • Pre – Audition Workshop (optional): Friday, June 1 Lloyd Center LA Fitness
  • Pre – Audition Workshop (optional): Sunday, June 3 – Moshofsky Center – University of Oregon
  • Preliminary Rounds: Sunday, July 8 – Portland Community College (PCC) – Sylvania Campus – Health Technology Building. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. Auditions to immediately follow registration.
  • Finalist Interviews: July 9 – 11 – Moda Center. Finalist Interview times TBD
  • Final Round: weekend of July 14. Dancers report for the Finals at approximately noon.

*There will be a mandatory practice for all Finalists prior to Finals.  Date and time TBD.  We’ll update this information as soon as it is confirmed.

Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years of age by October 1, 2018
  • BlazerDancers must attend all practices, games, training camps and mandatory Portland Trail Blazers events.  BlazerDancer duties include community service events, appearances and photo shoots.
  • Must be able to attend practices every Thursday and Sunday evening (beginning in mid-August; times TBD). Additional practices may be added throughout the season.
  • Must have reliable transportation to practices, games, appearances, etc.  Must meet and maintain dancing skill requirements, personal appearance and fitness level throughout the season.
  • Must abide by the other Terms and Conditions included with application materials.

What to Wear:

A two-piece dance outfit (flesh-colored tights are permitted). No baggy clothing other than during the hip hop round. You may wear loose fitting pants or sweats for the hip hop routine during prelims. You may also wear any kind of dance shoe, sneakers or perform barefoot. Please make sure shoes have non-marking soles.

Game-night ready hair and make-up expected.

What to Bring:

  • In the interest of time, we encourage participants to bring their completed and signed Application, waiver, and terms and conditions forms. Applicants under the age of 18 at the time of auditions must have a parent or guardian sign the forms.
  • A current head shot photo as well as full body photo of yourself (at least 4×6; does not need to be professional but must be clear and contain only the audition participant). Photos are used for identification purposes and will not be returned.
  • Snacks, water, make-up or hair products for touch ups. Please note that there is no extended lunch break. There will be breaks but not long enough to leave the site for food.

What to Expect:

Preliminary rounds of auditions are closed and spectators will not be allowed in the gymnasium. Score sheets and judges’ comments will not be made available. The Final Round is open to spectators and Finalists will receive a limited number of tickets for friends and family. Portions of Auditions are expected to be filmed for trailblazers.com.

During the preliminary rounds, dancers will learn several routines and perform them in small groups in front of a panel of judges. The judges will make cuts after each routine. Approximately 30-40 Finalists will be selected at the end of the Preliminary Rounds to continue to the Finals. Dancers who make it to the Final Round will learn at least two routines to perform and will be required to perform a 1-minute solo routine showcasing their dance ability and personality. Finalists will also be required to come in for interviews July 9th, 10th or 11th.

Dancers will have the opportunity to participate in a mock-audition; learning combinations in the style of dance that will be taught at Auditions.

  • Participation in either Workshop will give you an automatic bid to the 2nd Round of Auditions
  • Workshop will feature Q&A session with Performance Teams Manager and current BlazerDancers, as well as audition tips on performances, outfit selection, hair and make-up, what to expect, etc.
