What is the most commonly forgotten, yet one of the most important parts of the audition process?

You guessed it!

Your “Pre-Work”! Well, you probably said resume or cover letter or headshot, but those all fit under this category! HEHE!

This is your time to show off BEFORE even stepping foot into the audition room (or in the situation we are in now, before you submit your video!) This section of the audition needs to be polished and prepared for excellence, yet for some reason, people don’t take this part as seriously as it should be taken. So we want to help you out!

We are continuing our four part series “How to Nail Your Pro Cheer Audition Video Submission” with video #3 The “Pre-Work”!

In this video, I share 10 things you should do and know when preparing your Pre-Work. Everything from what your resume should include to how you can take the team’s mission statement and showcase how you are a great fit for their team. I go through what you should NOT include in your resume or cover letter and some things to watch out for.

If you want more information on how you can stand out in your pre-work, email us at info@sidelineprep.com to sign up for our Sideline Application training which is over an hour long and includes tons of resources you can use to turn in that eye popping resume!

But since we want to see all of you make your dream team, we want to give you not just 1 but 2 sample resumes AND 1 sample cover letter for FREE! You’re welcome! All you have to do is click the links below to get those resources!

Sponsor Spotlight: Satin Stitches NBA Auditions Styles

Editor’s note: The NBA audition season is right around the corner and if you are a dancer who is planning on trying out this year, you may want to consider an audition outfit by one of our longtime sponsors, Satin Stitches.

You want to stand out and be noticed at your audition…but you want to stand out in a good way!

A fabulous audition outfit should enhance your performance and get you noticed, it should not distract from your dancing. An important tip: always be authentic (to yourself) by having your outfit show off your personal style.

At Satin Stitches, we offer TAILORED, SPORTY or ‘GIRLIE’ style/silhouettes (with all types of fabrics, trims and embellishments) to suit ‘your personal style’.

If you feel fabulous in your audition outfit (you love the style and the fit), you can perform to the best of your ability instead of worrying about whether your top will stay down-in place, or worrying about if your skirt or short will ride up.

Knowing the answers to these questions should help you choose the best outfit for you to shine during your audition.

  • What color do you love, and what colors look best on you?
  • What style or silhouette shows off your body shape and type the best?
  • What style of outfit coordinates best with your dance expertise?

There are many reasons to order your audition outfit from shop.satinstitches.com:

  • The sexy reasons:
    • Satin Stitches offers creativity with silhouettes, fabrics and trims.
    • Satin Stitches offers creative, fabulous rhinestone embellishments, or you can order our stunning outfits and embellish them yourself!
  • The non-sexy reasons:
    • Satin Stitches offers the inner construction on our tops that professional dancers appreciate:
      • Non-roll underbust bands
      • Princess seamlines for bust shaping
      • Moisture-wicking Supplex linings
      • Adjustable back neck closures
      • Cup size options for great fit

Satin Stitches’ turnaround time on our Web Store customizable audition apparel is very short, with most orders able to ship within a week of receipt.

Sponsor Spotlight: Satin Stitches New Audition Styles

2019 Satin Stitches New Audition Styles

By Deborah Nelson, Satin Stitches

Every February our designers at Satin Stitches Ltd create new Pro cheer and dance team uniform and audition looks to present at the NFL Cheerleader Directors Conference.  This year’s event was hosted last week, by the Minnesota Vikings Cheerleaders and held in our home state of Minnesota!

How do we come up with fabulous new styles, you wonder?

Well, we start with brainstorming on what may be trending in the dance and cheer world, and we all come up with design ideas. Once the final designs are decided upon, our team creates the CAD patterns and then starts to cut, sew and embellish all the new garments, after fabrics are determined.  We check to see how the garments look and fit, before the final rhinestones are added. Then these fabulous new styles are ready for their ‘moment in the spotlight’, at our Pro-Cheer photo shoot.

We scheduled a photo shoot with a former Satin Stitches’ designer who is also a skilled photographer, hire our fabulous models, and the rest is history.  We choose what photos look the best, and publish our official 2019 Look Book to distribute to all the NFL Cheer Directors and simultaneously determine pricing, fabric availability, titles with descriptions and upload all the new styles into our Web Store.

Trending this year? High-rise waistlines on shorts and skirts, along with longer crop-tops, in addition to the traditional bra-top.  Sporty banding and rhinestone embellishments continue to trend, as well as lace and fringe. As seen on the Oscars Red Carpet: pink, red and blush colors are very popular, besides official sports’ team colors.  Sublimation fabrics and branding with team logos continue to be perfect for all teams! Check out our ‘Huskies’, ‘Foxes’ and ‘Sharks’ prototypes.

In our Web Store, every month we advertise a special offer.  This month we are offering free shipping (with our coupon code).  We also expedite most of our audition orders, so you can receive a fabulous customized outfit in even less than a week from www.shop.satinstitches.com!  We don’t recommend that you wait for the last moment to decide on your personal audition costume, but if you do, we’ve got you covered!

Audition Tips from The Line Up – The 3 Best Color Options for College and Pro Cheer Audition Outfits

Editor’s note: Its NBA audition season and The Line Up, a long time sponsor of UltimateCheerleaders.com, has published some audition outfit tips.  They have graciously agreed to let us share their information with our readers.

Customized Pro Cheer Audition Wear

You’ve found your perfect outfit for your pro cheer audition and are ready to order! Now the question is, “What colors do I get?!” With endless possibilities for color combinations for made-to-order styles, we get that it is no easy task to decide!

Every year, we get a lot of questions about the best color combinations for tryout wear, so we’ve compiled a list of the top three color options for your pro cheer audition apparel. Check out the list below!

 1. Team Colors

Custom Pro cheer audition apparel - team colors

Audition styles in the same team colors – from left to right: 259-53F top, 425-34 top, 420-154 Zsa Zsa top, and 202-10 Sporty top.

Team colors are the most common choice for tryout apparel – and some NFL and NBA cheer teams even require it!  For example, the Minnesota Vikings Cheerleaders require their candidates to wear purple, white, gold, or black to team auditions.

Despite these color restrictions, there are plenty of ways to get creative with incorporating your team’s limited color palette into your audition apparel, while still putting your own spin on it to reflect your personality and style. If you’re a sporty kind of lady, apply your team colors to a style with an athletic look. If you’re more feminine, apply your team colors to an outfit with ruffles or a skirt!

2. Bright Colors

Custom Pro cheer audition apparel using bright colors
Brightly color audition styles –  from left to right: 420-10 B V top, 420-121A top, and 420-207 top.

Make a statement! When in doubt, bright colors always stand out in a crowd and pop against tanned skin. This is a great option if your team allows for flexibility with colors choices, but bright colors could even be incorporated with your team’s branded colors. Go for a brighter or lighter hue of your team color to make your outfit stand out!

 3. All Black Everything!

All Black Custom Pro cheer audition apparel

All black audition styles – from left to right: 420-107D top, Chicago top, Aura top, and Gleason Mesh top.

Some teams require all black! This helps give some uniformity to the tryout outfits and candidates. But black tryout apparel doesn’t have to be boring!! Spice it up with sparkly, foil or hologram fabrics to add depth and texture. Use sequins, lace or textural mesh to bring across your personality! An all black color scheme can give your tryout apparel some edge and sass.

All Black Custom Pro cheer audition apparel

All black audition styles – from left to right: 425-5D Zsa Zsa top, 425-5D top, 259-89B top, 411-33 top, and 411-33 Lace top.

12 Audition Outfit Tips From Satin Stitches

Editor’s note: Its audition season and Satin Stitches, a long time sponsor of UltimateCheerleaders.com, has published an article regarding selecting the perfect audition outfit for your body shape.  They have graciously agreed to let us share their information with our readers.

12 Audition Outfit Tips

Posted by Deborah Nelson

Beauty is always in the eye of the beholder…including with your Try-Out or Audition outfit (for you, and your judges). With audition judges, you will receive different opinions as to how well you present yourself.

The NUMBER ONE RULE would be to be unique, and not wear something others are wearing, so consider custom-designed or customized solo cheerleading/dance costumes from Satin Stitches! www.shop.satinstitches.com to check out our many options! Once we receive your order, we generally cut, sew, embellish and ship your custom-created outfit within a week or two.

Satin Stitches will have a booth at the P-R-O Convention in Atlanta in June. If you will be in attendance, stop by and pick up a flyer with a discount coupon for ordering your outfit from our Web Store!

Here are some basics to consider, helping you to decide what is the best design for YOUR ‘perfect’ audition outfit!

KEEP THESE 12 TIPS IN MIND:

  1. Check photos of past try-out events to see if what you have in mind will ‘fit in’, or ‘stand out’ in a bad way.
  2. Don’t let your outfit overpower you. You want to be noticed for YOU, not your outfit. You want to hear the compliment ‘You look nice in your costume’ rather than ‘I like your costume’.
  3. Always choose a color that is flattering for you. If you are old enough to try-out for a professional dance or cheer team, you are old enough to know what colors look great on you.
  4. You should also be aware of your body enough to realize what your best features are: emphasize your best features.
  5. Choose a costume style that reflects your personality. If you are a ‘girly-girl’, ruffles and/or lots of glitz should be a must. If you prefer bright, tailored clothing, your audition costume could feature tailored details. Your outfit should really showcase your style.
  6. Your costume should have great visual ‘flow’. Your audience should zero in on your face (with your fabulous makeup and great hair) and upper bodice, and then gently follow down your body. Secondary focal points should accent your best features.
  7. Watch out for design features that might be covered up by your hair. Paying for design features that aren’t seen, makes no sense.
  8. Remember overall design ‘rules’: less is more, 1/3 to 2/3 proportion, diagonal lines are always more flattering than horizontal lines, and combine colors of equal intensity. Can you ever have too much glitz? (Yes, you can, so edit your rhinestone embellishment!)
  9. You will be giving a 3-dimensional performance, so your costume should look great from all views, with the most sparkle on the front.
  10. Make sure your costume is comfortable and fits well, allowing you to move anyway you wish – you don’t want it restrictive. You also don’t want to spend any time worrying if something will ‘ride up’ or shift out of place.
  11. Your costume should not allow your undergarments to show. This depends on good design, quality of construction and the right choice of undergarments. You don’t want errant straps, panty lines or bust pads peeking out. By the same token, underwear SHOULD be worn to suppress jiggling, ‘camel toe’ and an immodest view of your derriere. A proper panty and supportive bra will do wonders for these ‘no-no’s’.
  12. Make sure your costume is clean and wrinkle-free. You will be sweating, so if you start out clean and fresh, your costume will hold up better than if it starts out limp and dingy.
